Public Relations of UPNVJ - The Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) of the National Veteran Development University Jakarta (UPNVJ) held a community service activity entitled "Bridging the Gap: Digital Literacy for Empowering Community Intelligence" at the Panti Putra Raden Mas Suryowinoto Hall, Yogyakarta, in January 2026. This activity targeted Early Childhood Education (PAUD) teachers and parents of fostered students to strengthen family digital literacy from an early age.
This activity is a collaboration between FISIP UPNVJ with the Raden Mas Suryowinoto Reading House and Ruang Binari, aiming to build collective awareness about the importance of literacy culture amidst the challenges of the digital era.
Marina Rospitasari, S.Kom.I., M.Si. , a Communication Studies lecturer at UPNVJ's Faculty of Social and Political Sciences and founder of Ruang Binari, emphasized that literacy should not be understood narrowly. "Literacy is not just the ability to read and write, but rather a gateway to acquiring knowledge and improving critical thinking skills. In early childhood, the role of parents and teachers is crucial in processing information into life skills," she explained.
Meanwhile, Cahayani Yogaswari, SIP, MA, a lecturer in Communication Studies at the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences at UPNVJ, highlighted the importance of media literacy within the family. "The physical presence of parents is not enough without dialogue. Media literacy is fostered through conversation and empathetic responses. The family is the first place for children to learn to critically interpret media," she said.
