UPNVJ Public Relations – The Faculty of Law of the National Development University “Veteran” Jakarta (FH UPNVJ) is collaborating with the Faculty of Law, Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), Malaysia, and the Depok City Family Welfare Movement Team to improve legal literacy among micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs). Through International Community Service activities, this collaboration provides education on legal risk mapping, business dispute prevention, and dispute resolution through mediation. The program, which is supported by internal funding from FH UPNVJ, aims to strengthen legal protection and the sustainability of community businesses.
The Dean of the Faculty of Law at UPNVJ, Dr. Suherman, SH, LL.M., opened the event and highlighted the role of the Depok City Family Welfare Movement (TP-PKK) in community economic empowerment. He stated that Working Groups II and III play a crucial role in skills development, cooperatives, and fostering family-based businesses.
In the first session, Rianda Dirkareshza, SH, MH, a lecturer at the Faculty of Law at UPNVJ, discussed the mapping of dispute risks in MSMEs. She outlined various issues that could potentially trigger business conflicts, such as late payments, breaches of agreements, profit disputes, and trademark counterfeiting. Businesses are encouraged to create written agreements and document transactions to reduce the risk of disputes.
Meanwhile, Dr. Muthia Sakti, SH, MH, emphasized the importance of legal awareness and literacy as preventative measures. MSMEs need to understand business legality, Business Identification Number (NIB) ownership, brand protection, and business document management. He also explained the availability of free legal assistance and mentoring services for micro and small businesses, as stipulated in Government Regulation Number 7 of 2021.
An international perspective was presented by the Dean of the Faculty of Law, UiTM Malaysia, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nur Ezan Rahmat, through the material " Mediation Approach for MSMEs: A Comparative Perspective ." He discussed mediation as an alternative dispute resolution that prioritizes dialogue, mutual agreement, and sustainable business relationships. The material also compared the legal frameworks for mediation in Indonesia and Malaysia.
Through this international collaboration, the Faculty of Law (FH) of UPNVJ strives to connect academic expertise with real community needs. Strengthening legal literacy and understanding of mediation is expected to help MSMEs anticipate risks, protect business interests, and maintain sustainable business relationships.
This activity also strengthens UPNVJ's commitment to implementing the tridharma of higher education through impactful community service and international academic collaboration.
