UPNVJ Public Relations – BANGKOK, Thailand – Veteran National Development University Jakarta (UPNVJ) concluded its international mission in Thailand with four strategic outcomes in student mobility, advanced study scholarships, international networking, and doctoral education. These achievements were announced during an audience with Hari Prabowo, the Indonesian Ambassador to the Kingdom of Thailand and UNESCAP, at the Indonesian Embassy in Bangkok on Friday (September 4, 2026).

The audience marked the final stage of UPNVJ's agenda in Thailand, which previously included educational promotion, exploration of higher education collaborations, and meetings with several academic partners. UPNVJ Rector Prof. Dr. Anter Venus, MA., Comm., presented the findings of the mission and discussed the support of the Indonesian Embassy in Bangkok so that the initiated collaboration can be quickly translated into programs that provide direct benefits for students, lecturers, education staff, and alumni.

One concrete outcome is the opening of internship opportunities for five UPNVJ students at the Indonesian Embassy in Bangkok. The program consists of one Communication Science student, two Law students, and two International Relations students. The program aims to provide international professional experience while strengthening students' competencies through direct involvement in the Indonesian diplomatic environment in Thailand.

The next milestone relates to human resource development through a collaboration with Walailak University. UPNVJ has the opportunity to encourage alumni and educational staff to pursue master's degrees and to open doctoral studies for lecturers through the university's scholarship program.

This scheme presents a strategic opportunity because Walailak University is offering various postgraduate scholarships for the 2026 academic year, including full tuition waivers for several master's and doctoral programs with specific academic requirements. UPNVJ will follow up on this opportunity by identifying potential participants and study programs relevant to the institution's development needs.

UPNVJ will also follow up on the process of joining the Asian International Mobility for Students (AIMS), a regional student mobility program coordinated by the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization Regional Centre for Higher Education and Development (SEAMEO RIHED). Participation in this network is expected to expand UPNVJ students' opportunities for cross-border academic mobility and access support schemes available through the government and program partners.

AIMS is a multilateral collaboration platform that brings together governments, universities, and students from several Asian countries. Through this network, students from participating universities can experience academic mobility at member universities according to their field of study and applicable regulations, including credit transfer mechanisms.

The fourth outcome is the exploration of collaboration between UPNVJ and the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), Thailand, specifically for the development of doctoral education. This collaboration is aimed at expanding access for UPNVJ's lecturers and human resources to further education, joint research, and international academic networks in the Asian region.

AIT has a long track record of collaboration with Indonesia and, during 2026, will expand its partnerships with several Indonesian universities and government institutions in postgraduate education, research, academic mobility, and doctoral programs. These opportunities align with UPNVJ's need to accelerate the improvement of lecturers' academic qualifications and expand international research collaborations.

UPNVJ Rector Prof. Dr. Anter Venus, MA., Comm., assessed that these four achievements demonstrate that UPNVJ's internationalization agenda is focused on measurable results. International collaboration should not stop at signing documents but should result in internship access for students, further study opportunities for lecturers and educational staff, international mobility, and academic and research collaboration that can strengthen the university's quality.

According to Venus, the audience at the Indonesian Embassy in Bangkok also serves as an important educational diplomacy mechanism for UPNVJ. The support of the Indonesian representative in Thailand is expected to accelerate communication with partners, help open access to strategic programs, and ensure that the collaborations established by UPNVJ provide tangible benefits for human resource development and enhance the university's reputation regionally.

With these four achievements, UPNVJ concludes its mission in Thailand with a clear follow-up agenda. Upon returning to Indonesia, the university will consolidate the internship program of five students at the Indonesian Embassy in Bangkok, prepare candidates for postgraduate study opportunities at Walailak University, follow up on participation in AIMS, and establish a framework for doctoral program collaboration with the Asian Institute of Technology as part of UPNVJ's internationalization strategy.
