The Faculty of Medicine of the Veteran National Development University Jakarta (FK UPNVJ) held a preparatory meeting for the establishment of the Primary Care Family Medicine Specialist Study Program (SPKKLP) on Thursday (October 2, 2025). The meeting, held in the FK UPNVJ Dean's Office, was attended by the Vice Dean for Student Affairs and Cooperation, Dr. Erna Harfiani, M.Si., the head of the establishment team, lecturers, and relevant staff.
Dr. Erna explained that the meeting aimed to formulate strategic steps for establishing new study programs to improve the quality of medical education in Indonesia. "We discussed administrative requirements, curriculum development in accordance with national standards, the availability of teaching staff, and infrastructure," she said.
The discussion was interactive, with input on both academic and technical aspects. The meeting resulted in the formation of a small team to prepare supporting documents to meet the study program establishment requirements.
According to Ministry of Health data, there will only be around 1,200 family medicine specialists in Indonesia by 2024, even though the need for primary care continues to increase.
Meeting participants agreed on a target of completing the document within the specified timeframe. The Faculty of Medicine (FK) of UPNVJ affirmed its commitment to realizing the SPKKLP as a tangible contribution to national medical education, supporting the Ministry of Health's target of increasing the ratio of specialist doctors to 0.45 per 1,000 residents by 2030.
