UPNVJ Public Relations - Veteran National Development University Jakarta (UPNVJ) held a socialization event on environmental monitoring and sustainable waste management in Nusantara Room 1 on Thursday (October 16, 2025). This event aimed to raise awareness among the academic community about cleanliness and environmentally friendly waste management.
The event was attended by the Secretary of the Depok City Environment and Sanitation Agency (DLHK), Reni Siti Nuraini, and her staff. They reviewed UPNVJ's concrete steps in waste management, in line with the agency's efforts to promote independent waste management within institutions. This is in response to administrative sanctions imposed on the final disposal site (TPA) in Depok City.
Reni stated that UPNVJ is expected to be able to manage its waste independently. "We are currently seeking investors to optimize waste processing," she said. The Environment and Forestry Department (DLHK) also offers affordable composting and maggot cultivation training, as well as facilitating separate waste management on campus.
One initiative is managing used cooking oil through the provision of special containers for periodic collection. This step is part of UPNVJ's commitment to creating a culture of sustainable waste management.
UPNVJ's Vice Rector for Planning, General Affairs, and Finance, Prof. Netti Herawati, emphasized the importance of a culture of proper waste disposal. "By involving leaders, lecturers, educational staff, and students, we are confident the campus environment will be cleaner and healthier," she said. However, limited land and human resources remain challenges.
This outreach is expected to be the first step towards a clean and environmentally friendly campus environment through synergy between UPNVJ and the Depok City DLHK.
