UPNVJ Public Relations – The Veteran National Development University (UPNVJ), through its Academic Support Unit (UPA) Library, held a webinar titled "Bibliometrics in Action: Measure, Analyze, and Strategize Your Research" on Monday, March 9, 2026. The online event, held via Zoom, was attended by dozens of lecturers and master's students at UPNVJ as an effort to strengthen data-driven research and scientific publication strategies.
The Head of the UPNVJ Library UPA, Fajar Nugroho, in his remarks emphasized that bibliometric-based research literacy is an important competency for lecturers and postgraduate students amidst increasingly competitive global scientific publication competition.
"Through this activity, we hope to create a space for discussion and learning that can strengthen a productive and high-quality research ecosystem. Knowledge of bibliometrics is expected to assist UPNVJ lecturers and students in developing more targeted research strategies," said Fajar.
The webinar featured Pradipta Faikar Hakim, a lecturer at the University of Indonesia and Customer Success Manager at Elsevier Indonesia, as the keynote speaker. In his presentation, he explained various approaches to using bibliometrics to analyze global research trends, identify opportunities for scientific collaboration, and formulate publication strategies in internationally reputable journals.
Pradipta explained that understanding bibliometric indicators is a key factor for academics in improving the quality and visibility of research. Through analyzing metrics such as the h-index , citation count, and impact factor , researchers can measure scientific impact and determine more strategic research development directions.
"Bibliometrics not only helps understand research developments in a field, but also provides guidance for researchers in determining relevant topics and selecting appropriate journals for publication," he explained in the presentation session.
The resource person also introduced the Scopus scientific database platform as a primary resource for searching internationally reputable academic literature. Participants gained an overview of the Scopus database's scope, the types of scientific documents available, and its benefits in supporting academic research development.
The webinar then continued with a tutorial session on using Scopus, covering everything from scientific article search techniques to utilizing the citation analysis feature. Participants were also introduced to various analytical tools that can be used to map research developments, identify influential authors, and determine potential research collaborations globally.
Through this activity, UPNVJ affirms its commitment to strengthening the research capacity of its academic community by increasing scientific data literacy and bibliometric-based publication strategies, thereby increasing the university's academic contribution at the national and international levels.
