UPNVJ Public Relations — The "Veteran" National Development University Jakarta (UPNVJ) continues to demonstrate its commitment to supporting sustainable environmental management through waste management training activities that focus on shredding plastic bottle caps and pressing the shredded results.

This activity involved various elements, starting from a team of UPNVJ lecturers, officers from the Pondok Labu Village Public Infrastructure and Facilities Management (PPSU), educational staff, FORSEPSI (Indonesian Golden Friends Forum for Waste Care) administrators, and representatives from the Dharma Wanita UPN Veteran Jakarta. This cross-element collaboration is a concrete manifestation of the synergy between universities and the community in creating a more structured and economically valuable waste management ecosystem. This training aims to improve participants' capacity in processing plastic waste, particularly bottle caps, so they can be processed into recycled materials with higher sales value. The shredding process is carried out using a plastic shredding machine, followed by pressing to improve storage and distribution efficiency.

In this activity, participants not only gained technical understanding of machine operation but also insight into the importance of circular economy-based waste management. Waste previously considered worthless, through proper processing, can become a source of additional income while reducing environmental burdens.

Representatives of the UPNVJ lecturer team said that this activity is part of an effort to strengthen the role of the UPNVJ Waste Bank as a collection center (waste collection hub) that not only serves the campus environment, but also the surrounding community, especially the Pondok Labu Subdistrict area.

"Through this training, we hope to transfer knowledge and skills to the community, so that waste management can be carried out independently, sustainably, and provide economic benefits," he said.

This activity also marks the first step in developing a collaborative model between campuses and the community for integrated waste management. Going forward, UPNVJ plans to expand training programs, strengthen waste recording and management systems, and develop partnerships with various parties, including offtakers and the recycling industry.

With this activity, UPNVJ further emphasizes its role not only as an educational institution, but also as an agent of change in encouraging sustainable practices and environmentally-based community empowerment.
