UPNVJ Public Relations – Veteran National Development University Jakarta (UPNVJ) held a public leadership lecture titled "Emulating General Soedirman's Leadership in the Digital Generation Era" at the Bhinneka Tunggal Ika Auditorium on Friday, April 17, 2026. Around 80 students attended the event and featured Ganang Priamodo Sudirman, General Soedirman's grandson, as the main speaker.
UPNVJ Rector, Prof. Dr. Anter Venus, MA, Comm., emphasized that General Sudirman was not only a national hero but also a role model whose values deserve to be revived by the younger generation. He stated that respect for others, courage to take a stand, and steadfastness in upholding principles are essential foundations for the development of future leaders.
"General Sudirman was a figure who respected everyone. His principle was simple yet profound: if we want to be respected, we must first respect others. Furthermore, he was also known as a brave individual," said Prof. Anter Venus.
Prof. Anter Venus added that courage in the digital age isn't always defined as grand gestures in extraordinary situations, but rather as a readiness to open oneself to new experiences, knowledge, and the challenges of the times. In his view, the younger generation needs to develop courage accompanied by character, maturity of thought, and social responsibility.
"Today's next generation must have the courage to open doors to new experiences, knowledge, and challenges that will shape their leadership character in the future," he said.
Meanwhile, Ganang Priamodo Sudirman emphasized that General Soedirman's exemplary role is even more important in the digital era, rife with distractions, accelerated information flow, and rapid change. He cited integrity, steadfastness, and selfless devotion as key values that the younger generation must uphold when they assume leadership roles.
"General Sudirman taught us integrity, steadfastness, and selfless devotion. These values are timeless and even more important in this digital age full of challenges and distractions," said Ganang.
He also encouraged students to go beyond historical knowledge of General Sudirman and to emulate his leadership in their daily lives. He argued that leadership in the digital age cannot be solely based on technological capabilities; it must be built on strong character.
"Becoming a leader in the digital age isn't just about technological skills, but also about character. Exemplary behavior, discipline, and a sense of responsibility are the main foundations that the younger generation must possess," he said.
This public lecture serves as a learning space that combines the values of national struggle with the challenges of contemporary leadership. For UPNVJ, strengthening student leadership character is a crucial part of the higher education process, which not only prepares academically competent graduates but also morally and socially resilient ones.
