UPNVJ Public Relations - Veteran National Development University Jakarta (UPNVJ) has opened a Prior Learning Recognition (RPL) pathway for Diploma Three Nursing and Physiotherapy graduates who wish to continue their education to the undergraduate level. Through an assessment of work experience, competency certificates, previous education, and professional portfolios, prospective students have the opportunity to obtain semester credit unit recognition so they do not need to repeat courses that have already been mastered. This program, organized by the UPNVJ Faculty of Health Sciences, provides a limited quota of 30 students each for the Undergraduate Nursing Program and the Undergraduate Physiotherapy Program.
RPL is an option for healthcare workers who need to improve their academic qualifications without completely leaving their professional activities. Credit recognition is not granted automatically, but is determined through objective, transparent, measurable assessments, and tailored to the learning outcomes of each course.
UPNVJ emphasizes that recognizable learning outcomes can come from formal, non-formal, informal education, or relevant work experience. The process is supported by portfolio review, competency evidence evaluation, and determination of academic equivalency by an assessment team.
Physiotherapy RPL Can Be Completed in Three Semesters
UPNVJ's Physiotherapy Undergraduate Program offers a minimum study period of three semesters, or approximately 1.5 years, for students who achieve maximum recognition. The length of study varies for each student, as it is determined based on the completeness, relevance, and assessment results of the submitted portfolio.
The Physiotherapy Undergraduate Program at UPNVJ currently holds an Excellent accreditation rating based on LAM-PTKes Decree Number 1037/LAM-PTKes/Akr/Sar/XI/2025. This program also specializes in musculoskeletal physiotherapy, in addition to equipping students with neuromuscular, cardiovascular, integumentary, sports, geriatric, and community competencies.
Prospective RPL Physiotherapy Undergraduate Program students must have a Diploma 3 Physiotherapy degree from a study program with at least a B or Very Good accreditation. Applicants must also provide a diploma, transcript, and a study permit from their institution for those currently working.
Non-UPNVJ alumni applicants must have at least one year of work experience as a physiotherapist. Required professional documentation includes a national competency certificate, a certificate from the National Professional Certification Agency (BNCP) from the Ministry of Health, or an international certificate obtained within the last five years.
Non-alumni applicants are also required to have an active Registration Certificate, an active Physiotherapy Practice License, and proof of health insurance. All of these documents will be used as proof of competency for the recognition process.
Integrated Nursing RPL with Nursing Professional Education
UPNVJ also offers 30 seats for D3 Nursing graduates through the Nursing RPL Program. This scheme is designed as an integrated educational pathway, requiring students to declare their willingness to complete the Bachelor of Nursing Program and continue their education in the Nursing Professional Program.
These provisions are intended so that participants not only obtain a Bachelor of Nursing degree, but also complete the stages of professional education required to strengthen their competence as professional nurses.
Based on accreditation information from the UPNVJ Faculty of Health Sciences as of July 15, 2026, the Undergraduate Nursing Study Program and the Professional Nursing Education Program have a Very Good status. Both programs are also listed as having received ASIIN international certification.
Applicants for the Nursing RPL must be D3 Nursing graduates from a study program with at least a B or Very Good accreditation. Prospective students must attach their diploma, transcripts, a medical certificate of physical and mental health, and a Semester Learning Plan for each course listed on their D3 transcript.
The Semester Learning Plan is needed to analyze the suitability of the material, study load, and learning outcomes of the courses from the home university with the curriculum of the UPNVJ Nursing Undergraduate Program.
Applicants must also submit relevant competency certificates or training obtained within the last five years, including Basic Trauma Cardiac Life Support training. For prospective students who are already employed, other supporting documents include an active Registration Certificate and proof of membership in the Indonesian National Nurses Association.
Recognition Maintains Academic Standards
UPNVJ's Vice Rector for Academic Affairs, Dr. Henry Binsar Hamonangan Sitorus, ST, MT, previously emphasized that RPL must be supported by regulations, administration, human resources, and accountable assessment instruments. Recognition of learning experiences must also be equitable to learning outcomes in the target study program.
Therefore, the number of courses and credits recognized is not solely determined by length of work experience. The assessment team will examine the relevance of the experience, the authenticity of the documents, the depth of competency, and its alignment with the UPNVJ curriculum.
