UPNVJ Explains SIAKAD Disruption and LeADS Security Incident, System Recovery to be Done in Phases

UPNVJ Public Relations - Veteran National Development University Jakarta (UPNVJ) apologizes to its entire academic community for the inconvenience caused by disruptions to access to several campus digital services over the past few days. UPNVJ confirms that the issues with the Academic Information System (SIAKAD) and the Learning Process Information System (SIMPEL) are separate and not directly related to the incident of misuse of access to the LeADS e-learning platform.

The two incidents occurred consecutively on different platforms and were caused by separate issues. UPNVJ is providing this explanation as a form of transparency and to prevent the emergence of inaccurate information regarding the state of the university's digital systems.

Infrastructure Disruption

On July 27, 2026, the UPNVJ Information and Communication Technology Academic Support Unit (UPA TIK) detected an anomaly in the form of a drastic decrease in network connection capacity on the main server, from 1 gigabit per second or Gbps to 100 megabits per second or Mbps.

This situation has the potential to disrupt the continuity of academic services, particularly during the Study Plan Card (KRS) filling period, grade input, and the new student admission process. To prevent a complete system outage, UPNVJ immediately performed a server migration and infrastructure adjustments.

During the maintenance and migration process, compatibility issues and data adjustments were encountered, causing some users to experience difficulties accessing SIAKAD. The UPNVJ technical team worked intensively to review, adjust, and stabilize the system.

Currently, new student admissions and academic services have gradually resumed operations. System performance is continuously monitored to ensure the stability of all services.

Abuse of Access Rights on LeADS

A different incident occurred on the LeADS platform on July 30, 2026, when inappropriate displays were found on the e-learning platform's pages.

Based on the results of the technical investigation to date, no indication of a hacking of the UPNVJ main server has been found. The incident occurred at the application level and was related to the misuse of credentials from an account.

The account was used by an unauthorized party to gain access and install unauthorized plugins on the LeADS platform. Therefore, the LeADS incident is not part of the previous infrastructure disruptions that occurred at SIAKAD and SIMPEL.

UPNVJ is still conducting a thorough inspection to ensure the integrity of the system, evaluate the mechanism for granting access rights, and prevent similar incidents from recurring.

Security Handling and Strengthening Steps

As a form of responsibility in maintaining the security of digital services and academic community data, UPNVJ has taken a number of handling steps.

First, UPNVJ temporarily suspended access to LeADS immediately after receiving the report to localize the incident and prevent the impact from spreading.

Second, the abused account has been suspended. UPNVJ has also temporarily revoked access rights for security audits and evaluations.

Third, UPNVJ strengthened its authentication and access control mechanisms by implementing a single sign-on (SSO) system integrated with OneUPNVJ. This step was followed by an evaluation of manager accounts, access restrictions, application configuration checks, and enhanced monitoring of system activity.

UPNVJ urges all students, lecturers, education staff, and digital service managers to update their passwords regularly, not to use the same password on multiple services, not to provide account credentials to other parties, and to use OneUPNVJ to access the university's digital services.

The academic community is also asked to immediately report any suspicious activity, changes in appearance, or access requests through official UPNVJ channels so that they can be followed up by the technical team.

UPNVJ appreciates the input and reports submitted by students, including those from the UPNVJ Student Executive Board. This participation demonstrates a shared commitment to building a safe, reliable, and student-centered digital campus environment.

UPNVJ is currently working with authorities to conduct comprehensive cybersecurity recovery, inspections, and strengthening. Information technology governance evaluations are also ongoing to ensure UPNVJ's digital transformation prioritizes the principles of prudence, data protection, transparency, and excellent service for the entire academic community.*
