UPNVJ Public Relations – Veteran National Development University Jakarta (UPNVJ) continues its campus infrastructure and facilities renovation project through the exterior beautification project of the MH Thamrin Building, Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB), Pondok Labu Campus. The project, marked by the signing of a Work Order (SPK) on August 14, 2026, is targeted for completion on December 11, 2026. The renovation involves the installation of a facade covering to update the building's appearance and create visual harmony within the campus area.
UPNVJ Capital Expenditure and Building Commitment Making Officer (PPK), Hugeng Budianto, SE, said the project is a continuation of the campus exterior rejuvenation program that has previously been implemented on a number of UPNVJ buildings.
"Indeed, this has become a campus policy or program to organize and improve facilities and infrastructure at UPN Veteran Jakarta," said Hugeng.
According to him, the renovations aren't solely focused on the building's appearance. The renovations also aim to create visual uniformity between buildings, making the UPNVJ area appear more modern, organized, and representative.
"The goal is beautification, so the campus looks fresh again, looks good again. Later it will also be adjusted from one building to another so that it is more eye-catching," he said.
Exterior renovations were deemed necessary given that some of the UPNVJ buildings had been in use for quite some time. By rejuvenating the facade, the building can maintain its primary function as an educational facility while providing a more comfortable learning environment.
Arrangement is carried out in stages
Hugeng explained that the building beautification will be carried out in stages, taking into account priority needs and the university's budget. The project will be funded using Non-Tax State Revenue (PNBP), including Single Tuition Fee (UKT), rather than the Pure Rupiah Budget (RM).
"We're using our own funds, in the sense of the UKT we receive. So, it's not purely from the government, in the sense of RM. The budget includes RM funding sources and PNBP funding sources," he said.
Therefore, the renovations will not be carried out simultaneously on all buildings. UPNVJ has prepared a development plan for the Pondok Labu and Limo campuses, which includes developing the exterior appearance of several buildings.
"The drawings for the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Faculty of Law, Faculty of Medicine, and Faculty of Medicine are already there. The exterior design is already there. Maybe the others will be implemented as well," Hugeng said.
The development of the area also goes hand in hand with improvements to academic support facilities. For example, in the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) and Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) areas, several other construction projects are currently underway concurrently.
Building Access Regulated During Construction
To ensure the safety and security of the academic community, several access points around the MH Thamrin Building will be temporarily closed during construction. Prior to construction commencing, the PPK coordinated with the implementing agency, supervisors, and the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) and Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP).
Based on this coordination, access to the west, east, and north sides of the building is restricted. The area under the new skybridge is also temporarily closed to lecturers and students. This arrangement takes into account several other construction projects taking place simultaneously in the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) and Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) areas.
"This also overlaps with the FEB cafeteria construction project, which has already begun. Construction of the FISIP cafeteria and the FISIP multipurpose room on the third or fourth floor has also begun," said Hugeng.
In the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) area, construction of a semi-open cafeteria is underway in the upper hallway of the new building and is designed to include a tenant area and a multi-purpose room upstairs. Meanwhile, construction of a semi-open cafeteria and supporting facilities is also underway in the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) area. These projects are targeted for completion by December 2026.
Noisy Work Arranged Outside of Class Hours
The beautification work was originally planned to begin during the even semester break. However, work was delayed due to the preparation of design documents and tenders, resulting in some construction taking place after classes had resumed.
To mitigate the impact on learning, UPNVJ is coordinating with the Vice Dean II of the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) and the Head of General Affairs. Work that has the potential to generate high levels of noise is being restricted to after 4:00 PM WIB or on holidays. Material mobilization is also being regulated to avoid disrupting academic activities.
"High-level noise should be avoided during class hours. But we can't completely avoid it," Hugeng said.
He apologized to students and academics for any inconvenience caused during construction. Mitigation efforts are still underway, with the completion target of December 11, 2026.
Optimization of Limo Campus Facilities
In addition to the development of the Pondok Labu area, UPNVJ continues to optimize facilities on the Limo Campus, including the completion of the student parking area. Access to the parking area has been adjusted to ensure safer vehicle lanes and better maneuverability.
"Those who want to use the parking lot below are students, so they don't turn straight in, but enter a little further forward because the road is a little uphill," explained Hugeng.
The main access work was completed before classes resumed. Several additional facilities, including awnings at the parking area, are still under construction.
The Limo Campus parking lot has been gradually reorganized over the past few years, including clearing the land, building fences and access roads, and paving the area. These optimizations are aimed at improving safety, comfort, and service capacity for students.
