Public Relations of UPNVJ – The National Development University “Veteran” Jakarta (UPNVJ) through the Task Force for the Prevention and Handling of Violence in Higher Education (Satgas PPKPT) in collaboration with LBH APIK Jakarta and Jakarta Feminist held a Sexual Violence Prevention Training using the BANTU Intervention Method at the Bhinneka Tunggal Ika Auditorium of UPNVJ, Friday (28/8/2026).

This training is part of an effort to increase the campus community's knowledge and skills in recognizing and responding to gender-based and sexual violence, particularly when encountering or witnessing sexual violence in their communities. The event began with remarks from the Head of the UPNVJ Bureau of Academic, Student Affairs, and Cooperation (AKK), Dr. Asropi, SIP, M.Si. The names and titles mentioned here refer to official UPNVJ information.

The BANTU Intervention Training targets students, young paralegals, lecturers, members of the PPKPT Task Force, young people, and the general public. Within the program's framework, this method is introduced to equip participants with an understanding of the forms, types, and impacts of sexual violence in public spaces, while also fostering a safer culture through the ability to intervene when faced with situations of sexual violence.

This collaboration is motivated by the persistently high number of cases of violence against women. According to data included by LBH APIK Jakarta in its terms of reference for its activities, the institution received approximately 3,110 case reports in the three years leading up to the end of 2025. The same document references the 2025 Annual Report (CATAHU) of the National Commission on Violence Against Women, which recorded 376,529 cases of violence against women in Indonesia.

LBH APIK Jakarta also recorded that sexual violence was the highest category of complaints they received in 2024, with 303 cases. This data demonstrates that strengthening prevention mechanisms and community capacity to respond to sexual violence remains a necessity, including in higher education.

This training is also relevant to strengthening regulations on violence prevention and management. The activity's terms of reference mention Law No. 12 of 2022 concerning Criminal Acts of Sexual Violence (TPKS) and Ministerial Regulation No. 55 of 2024 concerning the Prevention and Management of Violence in Higher Education (PPKPT) as part of the foundation for improving protection and access to justice for victims.

During the training, participants not only received material on sexual violence prevention but also learned the BANTU Module Intervention concept presented by LBH APIK Jakarta. The training included a pre-test, a presentation on sexual violence prevention, a discussion of the BANTU intervention concept, a question-and-answer session, and a post-test.

The training is designed to equip participants not only with an understanding of sexual violence but also with the skills to determine their actions when confronted or witnessing incidents in public spaces. This way, violence prevention can become a shared responsibility, not just the responsibility of victims or task forces.

LBH APIK Jakarta is a legal aid institution focused on ensuring access to justice for women and vulnerable groups, including addressing gender-based violence. Together with Jakarta Feminist, the organization promotes outreach and training on sexual violence prevention as part of efforts to build a safe, inclusive, and responsive environment for victims. This program is also considered a follow-up to the development of information services for female victims of violence, which began in 2021.

For UPNVJ, the collaboration between the PPKPT Task Force and organizations experienced in legal aid and violence prevention is a crucial step in strengthening a safe higher education environment that supports academic processes. By enhancing the knowledge and intervention capabilities of the academic community, efforts to prevent and address violence are expected to become more integrated into campus life.
