Chancellor: Our Duty to Continue the Struggle for Independence

HumasUPNVJ - Chancellor of the Jakarta Veterans National Development University Dr. Erna Hernawati, Ak, CPMA, CA, CGOP said the duty of the entire nation in the era of independence was to continue the struggle of the fighters by providing the best for the nation and country in accordance with their respective professions and responsibilities.

"Today we set aside a little time for the independence commemoration event. It is not worth the sacrifice of the freedom fighters who have sacrificed their property, family, and even life," Erna said in her remarks at the 76th Commemoration of the Republic of Indonesia's Independence Day in the UPNVJ environment which was held virtually, Tuesday (17/8/2021).

Erna said UPNVJ as an educational institution under the government as a state university has a special, unique label as the State Defense Campus. This is one of UPNVJ's strengths.

According to Erna, the label should not just be a slogan but must flow within UPNVJ academics to become part of the solution to the problems faced by the nation and state.

"We have to show this as a form of respect for fighters. Always enthusiastic even though we are working from home during the Covid-19 pandemic," he said.

Erna said that without the struggle of the fighters, Indonesia would not be able to achieve independence.

"Maybe we can't enjoy the current situation. Many countries are still struggling at this time to achieve independence," he said.

Even though the 76th anniversary of independence took place in an unusual manner, Erna hoped that all UPNVJ academics would still be able to take lessons and reinterpret the struggle of the freedom fighters.

"Today we should be grateful. At the age of 76 this nation can enjoy the fruits of the struggle of the freedom fighters," he said. (*)
