UPNVJ Public Relations – Veteran National Development University Jakarta (UPNVJ) held a Quran Memorization Skills Test for participants of the 2026 UPNVJ Independent Selection or SEMA for the Quran Hafiz achievement pathway. This activity took place at the UPNVJ Manbaul 'Ulum Mosque on Saturday, June 27, 2026, as a selection stage for prospective students who had passed the administrative process of the UPNVJ D3 and S1 New Student Admissions Committee. Through this skills test, UPNVJ assessed memorization ability, reading accuracy, fluency, and rhythm of reading the Quran directly in front of the examiner.
The skills test is a crucial part of UPNVJ's commitment to providing access to higher education for prospective students with exceptional achievements, including in the religious field. The Hafiz Al-Qur'an achievement pathway assesses not only memorization achievement but also discipline, etiquette, and participants' readiness to become part of the National Defense Campus academic ecosystem.
Participants taking the skills test are prospective UPNVJ students in the Class of 2026 who have previously passed administrative verification by the new student admissions committee. Participants will appear based on the registration sequence number determined by the UPNVJ Penmaru Committee or the UPNVJ Student Executive Board (SEMA) Achievement Pathway Verification Team.
The committee established several regulations to maintain order and solemnity during the event. Participants were required to wear Muslim attire, while men were asked to wear a peci (traditional Islamic headgear). All participants were also urged to maintain good manners, ethics, and politeness during the series of skills tests within the mosque.
The assessment process is conducted using a verse-by-verse mechanism. Before participants read, the examiner first reads a portion of a specific verse or chapter. Afterward, participants are asked to continue reading according to the examiner's instructions. This method is used to directly test participants' memorization skills and assess the accuracy of their reading in a measured selection situation.
The test material is taken from Juz 1 to Juz 20. For participants who have memorized more than 20 juz, the examiner can also read questions from Juz 21 to Juz 30. Participants will stop reading when the examiner gives a signal. If participants forget when answering, the committee will give one opportunity to repeat the question.
The assessment elements in the UPNVJ Al-Qur'an Memorization Achievement Independent Selection include four main aspects. Memorization is the largest component, with a weighting of 35 percent, followed by tajwid (30 percent), fashahah (fluency) (20 percent), and rhythm or song (15 percent). This composition indicates that the assessment focuses not only on the amount of memorization, but also on the quality of recitation and the accuracy of the rules of recitation of the Al-Qur'an.
With this scheme, UPNVJ strives to ensure an objective and accountable selection process. Each participant has an equal opportunity to demonstrate their best abilities, while examiners use assessment indicators established by the committee.
The 2026 UPNVJ Student Executive Board (SEMA) Al-Qur'an Memorization Skills Test also demonstrated that prospective student achievement can manifest in various forms. Amid the competitive environment for admission to state universities, the achievement pathway provides a platform for appreciation for participants who demonstrate academic and non-academic excellence, including the ability to memorize and recite the Quran well.
From the perspective of strengthening the character of the National Defense Campus, this selection aligns with UPNVJ's efforts to build an educational environment that emphasizes not only intellectual prowess but also integrity, discipline, and moral values. Through the Hafiz Al-Qur'an achievement pathway, UPNVJ hopes that accepted students will foster a passion for learning, maintain academic ethics, and contribute positively to the academic community and society.
This activity is also part of the 2026 UPNVJ Student Examination (SEMA), which prioritizes transparency, committee readiness, and an orderly selection process. By conducting in-person skills tests, UPNVJ can ensure that participants' submitted achievements are truly verified through an assessment process that complies with applicable regulations.
