The 2024 Independent Selection for State Universities Consortium of State Universities Cooperation Agency for the Western Region or SMMPTN-West 2024 was officially launched on Monday, May 6 2024.
This activity is a continuation of the soft launching of West SMMPTN which was carried out online on March 8. This independent selection is an activity that has been carried out jointly by universities in the Western region of Indonesia, which includes state universities on the island of Sumatra, the western region of the island of Java, and Central Kalimantan Province.
The legality of the PTN consortium which is part of the independent selection has been regulated by the Minister of Education, Culture, Research and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia through Permendikbudristek Number 48 of 2022 and the latest amendment to Permendikbudristek Number 62 of 2023. This regulation provides opportunities for selection to enter tertiary institutions after the National Selection Based on Achievement (SNBP) and National Selection Based on Tests (SNBT).
Meanwhile, Independent Selection can be carried out independently by each PTN or jointly, as has been carried out by the SMMPTN-West committee since 2017. This selection is also carried out in an accountable and transparent manner to ensure the acceptance of new students for undergraduate and diploma programs.
What is new about this year's Independent Selection, as also regulated in the National Selection Based on Tests (SNBT), is that there is an opportunity for each prospective new student to choose four study programs, namely academic and vocational study programs. This is done to open up great opportunities for students to be selected, so that the space for participation in higher education for the nation's children also increases.
The West Region BKS PTN Consortium is not a static and permanent representation of PTN. Every year there are always changes to the PTNs that join based on the agreement approved that year.
For this year, there are 25 PTNs which are members of the General PTN, Arts PTN, and Islamic Religious PTN, as stated in the Decree of the Chairman of BKS PTN for the West Indonesia Region Number: 24-01/BKS PTN-Barat/I/2024 dated January 8 2024 concerning Universities Participating in the 2023 SMMPTN-West Program and Decree of the Chairman of BKS PTN-West Number: 24-02/BKS PTN-Barat/I/2024 concerning the 2024 SMMPTN-West Program Committee.

There are more than 890 study programs registered by the 25 PTNs for Independent Selection, with a total capacity of 16,564. Details of the study programs offered can be accessed on the smmptnbarat.id page for each PTN.
The amount of the Institutional Development Contribution (IPI) that prospective students must fulfill at each PTN also varies. The 2024 West SMMPTN registration fee is IDR 375,000 which applies the same to all choices, whether science and technology (science and technology) or social-humanities study programs.
For the entrance exam, the selection system itself is a Computer-Based Written Test (UTBK) or Computer Assisted Test (CAT). For those who choose arts and sports study programs, there is an additional assessment, namely a portfolio in the form of achievement documents and certificates during your time as a student which must be attached when registering.
In contrast to the UTBK assessment which is carried out with the same parameters, the portfolio assessment is returned to PTN which has sports and arts-humanities study programs.
Registration itself opened on May 4 2024 at 15.00 WIB, and will close on June 20 2024 at 16.00 WIB. Every prospective student will receive a payment ID if they have made payment no later than June 20 2024, 16.00 WIB. The deadline for printing cards is June 21 2024 at 16.00 WIB.
In today's grand launching activity, there will also be an official signing of cooperation with the affiliated partner banks, namely Bank Mandiri, Bank BNI, Bank BTN, and Bank BSI. This partner bank is also the bank appointed to make registration payments for SMMPTN-West 2024.
The exam schedule will be held from 27 June to 5 July 2024. Each prospective participant will receive a schedule and the selected UTBK center. This selection is made when registering.
However, prospective students must choose one PTN study program from a maximum choice of four study programs as a place to take UTBK. The system will reject it if there is not one of the study program choices at the PTN where he will do UTBK.
The socialization activities regarding SMMPTN-West 2024 will continue to be carried out massively by the 25 PTNs that are affiliated, either through billboards, banners, printed and digital flyers, including socialization videos by utilizing social and digital media owned by each PTN or social media. managed by the SMMPTN-West committee.
This is done solely to ensure that the PTNs that join are indeed bona fide universities and have high credibility in providing quality educational services.
It is hoped that the minimum target of 40 thousand registrants can be met in this year's independent selection. The long-term target is also expected to increase through the 2024 West SMMPTN "small leap" towards Golden Indonesia 2045.
