UPNVJ and National Commission on Disabilities of Indonesia Signed MoU To Create Inclusion for Persons with Disabilities

Public Relations UPNVJ - The National Commission on Disabilities (KND) always carries out the function of implementing cooperation with relevant stakeholders in implementing respect, protection and fulfillment of the rights of persons with disabilities.

This function is as stated in Article 5 letter d of Presidential Regulation Number 68 of 2020 concerning the National Commission on Disabilities. In order to carry out this function, KND previously held an audience regarding the initiation of cooperation with UPN "Veteran" Jakarta (UPNVJ), on Friday. 3 May 2024. Hold ongoing discussions to agree on the scope of cooperation as well as the rights and responsibilities of the parties, which will be stated in a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

Deputy Chancellor for Student Affairs and Cooperation, Dr. Dr. Ria Maria Theresa, SpKJ, MH, who attended the signing of the MoU on behalf of the UPNVJ Chancellor welcomed it and even looked forward to this agreement being realized as soon as possible in order to strengthen the synergy between UPNVJ and KND.

The woman who is familiarly called Ria said that this collaboration reflects UPNVJ's commitment to creating an inclusive and disability-friendly environment by increasing accessibility for dancers with disabilities.

“We believe that every individual has unlimited potential, and our duty is to provide equal access, support and opportunity for all, regardless of their background or circumstances.” Ria explained UPNVJ's commitment.

Afrizon Tanjung, Head of the KND Secretariat, in his speech explained the scope of this collaboration which would later be implemented in accordance with the higher education tridharma, "So the signing of this MoU with universities can be carried out in the form of higher education tridharma." Afrizon said.

In more detail, the scope of the memorandum of understanding made includes: 1) developing the interests and talents of each person with disabilities, 2) implementing education, research and service in higher education tridharma activities including the implementation of the Independent Campus Learning Program (MBKM), 3) scientific meetings (seminars, workshops , conferences), 4) human resource development and institutional strengthening, and 5) other activities agreed upon by both parties.

Apart from that, Afrizon also expressed the hope that people with disabilities will be given the opportunity to work at UPNVJ, "I also hope that people with disabilities in the private sector, in universities, will have the opportunity to work there at least 2 (two) percent in the government and at least 1 (one) percent in the private sector." He said.

This hope is based on the Law on Persons with Disabilities which requires the government and private sector to employ people with disabilities. Article 53 states a minimum of 2 (two) percent for the central government, regional government, BUMN and BUMD. Meanwhile, the private sector has a minimum of 1 (one) percent of the number of employees.

The signing of the MoU was carried out by the Chairman of the Indonesian KND, Dante Rigmalia together with Dr. Dr. Ria Maria Theresa, SpKJ, MH. This moment formalizes the cooperative relationship between the two parties to move forward towards a more inclusive and just future. (sf)
