Public Relations of UPNVJ - In a series of Dies Natalis of the Faculty of Law, National Development University "Veteran" Jakarta, Professor of Law and State Affairs UPNVJ Prof. Dr. Taufiqurrohman Syahuri, SH, MH, delivered a scientific oration at the Bhinneka Tunggal Ika Auditorium at the Pondok Labu Campus of UPNVJ on Thursday, May 15, 2025.
Titled “The Role of Law Colleges for Fair Law Enforcement in a Constitutional Perspective, this scientific oration was delivered in front of invited guests including UPNVJ Chancellor Prof. Dr. Anter Venus, MA, Comm., as well as lecturers, education staff, students, and a number of invited guests.
In his speech, Prof. Taufiqurrohman highlighted the importance of the role of universities as moral fortresses and centers for the development of legal science with integrity.
He said that the increasing number of bribery cases involving judicial officials in Indonesia was a reflection of an integrity crisis that must be addressed immediately.
"Higher education, especially law faculties, have a strategic role in forming law enforcement cadres who are not only intellectually intelligent, but also have a strong moral character," said Prof. Taufiqurrohman.
Building Character and Integrity
Furthermore, he also explained that legal education must be able to instill the values of justice and ethics for students. Not only mastering positive legal theory, law students also need to be equipped with an understanding of substantive justice and integrity as a foundation in carrying out their profession.
“Legal education should not only focus on the technical legal aspects, but should also be a means to shape character and integrity,” he added.
Prof. Taufiqurrohman also outlined several strategic recommendations, including strengthening the curriculum based on legal ethics, increasing the role of lecturers as moral role models, and developing educational programs that emphasize the value of justice.
This scientific oration is part of the UPNVJ Faculty of Law's efforts to strengthen the role of higher education as a pillar of law enforcement that is just and has integrity.
