After going through a long socialization process, the grand launching of the Independent Selection for Entrance to State Universities in the West Region or SMMPTN West 2025 was officially carried out, which was centered in Jakarta, on Monday, May 5, 2025.
According to the Head of SMMPTN-West 2025, Prof. Ibrahim, the SMMPTN-West program is entering its ninth year this year.
Its implementation is based on the Regulation of the Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Mendikbudristek) Number 48 of 2022 in conjunction with the Regulation of the Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia Number 62 of 2023 concerning the Admission of New Students for Diploma Programs and Undergraduate Programs at State Universities.
"So this activity is very legal and has been proven to be a professional, efficient selection model.
effective, transparent, and accountable, because the exam result assessment system is based on computers (computer-assisted test) and supervised by the Corruption Eradication Committee," said Ibrahim, who is also the Chancellor of Bangka Belitung University.
This year's activities saw an increase in participating campuses. Last year, there were 25 PTNs that joined, and this year it became 28 PTNs. The PTNs that joined were:

Marwan, who is also the Chancellor of Syiah Kuala University, believes that this selection activity is increasingly trusted by leading campuses in the West.
"This year we are providing a quota of 993 study programs from 28 PTNs with a total of 17,909 prospective student seats. We also expect input from the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) and the Inspector General of the Ministry of Education and Science and Technology in improving the quality of SMMPTN-Barat so that it is more credible and professional in its selection model," he said.
SMMPTN-Barat 2025 registration is done online through the official website https://pendaftaran.smmptnbarat.id/ and will take place from May 4 to June 12, 2025. The Computer-Based Written Exam (UTBK) will be held at each PTN organizer at the end of June. Meanwhile, the announcement of the selection results is scheduled for June 30, 2025.
