HumasUPNVJ - Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Pembangunan Nasional “Veteran” Jakarta (UPNVJ), Dr. Ir. Muchamad Oktaviandri, ST., MT., IPM., ASEAN Eng, became one of the main speakers at the Energy and Mineral Forum 2025 organized by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) in collaboration with the B-Universe media group in Jakarta on Monday, May 26, 2025.
The forum carries the theme “Supporting Industry Value Chain: Human Resources, Technology, and Local Roles,” and presents key figures from the energy and minerals sector to discuss future policy directions and industry challenges.
In his presentation, Oktaviandri emphasized the importance of strengthening supporting industries as a vital bridge between upstream and downstream sectors in the national energy and mineral ecosystem. He reminded that public discourse often focuses on upstream and downstream aspects, whereas the strength of this sector is largely determined by the resilience of supporting industries in the middle of the value chain.
"When we talk about the energy and mineral ecosystem, we talk too often about upstream and downstream, even though in the middle there is an important bridge that we call the supporting industry," said Oktaviandri.
He outlined three main pillars that need to be strengthened in driving the supporting industry, namely Human Resources (HR), technology, and local roles. According to him, the mastery of technology by national HR is still not optimal, especially in the context of the industrial revolution 4.0.
"Indonesian human resources have not yet fully mastered what the industry needs, especially in the direction of the industrial revolution 4.0. In fact, the supporting industry must join this wave of revolution," he added.
Oktaviandri also highlighted the dominance of foreign technology in industrial processes and the minimal involvement of local workers, who have tended to focus on manual labor.
"In fact, there are many local potentials that we can involve further so that this supporting industry can be optimized," he explained.
Oktaviandri's presence in this national forum confirms the strategic position of UPN Veteran Jakarta, especially the Faculty of Engineering, in encouraging the transformation of the energy sector through academic contributions and science-based advocacy.
