The "Veteran" National Development University Jakarta (UPNVJ) through its Community Service activities is encouraging the acceleration of the digitalization of public services in Tajur Halang Village, Bogor Regency, West Java, by implementing an open source-based village information system, OpenSID.
The Community Service Team from the Faculty of Computer Science (FIK) UPNVJ carried out community service activities in Tajur Halang Village, Bogor, through a program entitled "Community Empowerment through the Implementation of Village Portals and OpenSID-Based Village Information Systems."
This eight-month program, involving five dedicated lecturers and ten students, was designed to develop and implement a village information system based on the OpenSID platform, an open-source application that supports the digitization of public services and the transparent, real-time dissemination of information.
The activity began with a field survey and coordination with village officials. Next, the village portal was installed and customized using OpenSID, tailored to the needs of Tajur Halang Village. Once the system was operational, the team continued with intensive training for village officials and outreach to the general public.
"Through this village portal, Tajur Halang residents can now access important information, such as a single database to store all resident information, from personal identity (NIK, name, address) to social status, education, and employment," said Henki Bayu Seta, chairman of ABDIMAS, when met on Tuesday, July 29, 2025.
"This makes it easier for sub-districts to access, update, and verify data in real time without the need for manual filing, which is prone to loss or damage," he continued.
OpenSID is equipped with statistical features and demographic graphs. Subdistricts can analyze age distribution, education level, occupation, and other social categories to develop targeted work programs, including in development planning or the distribution of social assistance.
In addition to the information portal, the team also promotes participatory features within the system, such as reporting, providing suggestions, and direct feedback from citizens. The team conducts regular evaluations through surveys and monitoring portal usage to ensure the program's sustainability.
Haris, Secretary of Tajur Halang Village, stated that the implementation of OpenSID is very much in line with the village's vision and mission towards becoming a digital village.
He stated that since 2017, his office has launched a service digitalization program as part of bureaucratic reform and improving public services. The presence of OpenSID is said to reinforce this commitment.
"This system not only simplifies the work of village officials but also increases citizen engagement in accessing information and expressing their concerns. This is a concrete step toward modern, transparent, and participatory governance," Haris said.
This activity also supports the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly in the aspects of transparent and inclusive governance (SDG 16) and reducing the gap in access to information (SDG 10).
