UPNVJ Public Relations – Amidst the global trend of information transparency and digital transformation, the quality and visibility of scientific publications are crucial elements in strengthening academic reputation and research impact. To address this challenge, the DOAJ Global Outreach and Capacity Building 2025 officially launched today, July 30, 2025, as a strategic initiative to encourage the strengthening of journal management capacity at various institutions, including the Universitas Pembangunan Nasional “Veteran” Jakarta (UPNVJ).
This program, which is fully supported by Rumah Jurnal – under the auspices of the UPNVJ Institute for Research and Community Service (LPPM), aims to bridge the gap in understanding and implementing the principles established by the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ) – an international institution that has become the main reference in the indexing system for quality, transparent, and ethical open access scientific journals.
In his remarks, the Secretary of LPPM UPNVJ, Dr. Ibnu Malkan Bakhrul Ilmi, S.Gz, M.Si, expressed his appreciation to all participants who attended this training, which consisted of 46 journal managers within the UPNVJ environment.
He emphasized that journals are a priority program for the university. "Our Chancellor has a target of requiring every study program to have one journal. His goal is for all journals to achieve national accreditation, at least to be included in the SINTA index," said Dr. Ibnu.
Furthermore, Dr. Ibnu highlighted the importance of journals as part of UPNVJ's income generating strategy as a Public Service Agency (BLU), where each journal manager will receive remuneration and incentive points, both for journals that have been accredited and those that are still in process.
"We are committed to ensuring journal quality by facilitating indexing in DOAJ. Journals indexed in DOAJ are guaranteed to be credible and meet international standards," added Dr. Ibnu.
UPNVJ's Rumah Jurnal also featured keynote speaker Ikhwan Arief, M.Sc., a DOAJ Ambassador and Managing Editor. His presence significantly added value to the training, bringing both a practical perspective and international experience in managing and indexing scientific journals.
Ikhwan will provide direct guidance today to participants in understanding DOAJ standards and effective journal registration strategies.
This activity is not only a technical training, but also a collaborative forum that brings together scientific journal managers to form a sustainable and globally standardized publication ecosystem.
With an educational approach and capacity building, this activity is a concrete step in expanding DOAJ's reach and strengthening the institution's commitment to the principle of open access globally.
UPNVJ affirms its commitment to supporting the quality and integrity of scientific publications as part of strengthening academic competitiveness at the national and international levels through this training.
"Happy learning. Hopefully, the knowledge shared by the speakers today will be a useful resource for journal development at our institution," concluded Dr. Ibnu.
