UPNVJ Public Relations - Veteran National Development University Jakarta (UPNVJ) held a training session titled "Centering Press Release Writing and Media Communication" on Monday (May 27, 2024) at the UPNVJ Rectorate Building in Pondok Labu, Jakarta. This activity aimed to improve the skills of writing press releases and effective media communication for UPNVJ's internal public relations unit and student organizations.
UPNVJ Rector Prof. Anter Venus emphasized the importance of communication in maintaining the institution's reputation, especially during a crisis. "Good communication is key to managing public perception and resolving crises. This training is expected to strengthen public relations' capacity to convey information professionally," she said in her opening remarks.
The training featured Kompas.com senior journalist Try Harijono and public relations practitioner Trisia Megawati Kusuma Dewi as speakers. Try Harijono shared techniques for crafting informative press releases by adhering to the 5Ws + 1H, choosing a compelling perspective, and using clear language. "Press releases must be packaged to be attractive to the media and worthy of broadcast," he said.
Meanwhile, Trisia shared her decades of experience handling communication crises as a public relations practitioner. "Crises always come unexpectedly. Prepare a quick response and answers to frequently asked media questions to manage the situation effectively," she said.
This training is part of UPNVJ's efforts to build professional public communications that adapt to digital media developments. Participants are expected to apply the training findings to campus activity publications and institutional information to bolster UPNVJ's reputation as a National Defense Campus.
