The Chancellor of the National Development University “Veteran” Jakarta (UPNVJ) officially inaugurated Dr. Eng. Ir. Teguh Firmansyah, ST, MT, IPM as Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at UPNVJ in an inauguration ceremony held at the Bhinneka Tunggal Ika Hall on Thursday (30/10/25).
The inauguration ceremony took place solemnly and was attended by vice chancellors, deans, heads of work units, lecturers, and educational staff at UPNVJ.
In his remarks, the Chancellor of UPNVJ emphasized that a leader must be a guide who is able to direct and bring change to the institution he leads.
"A leader is a guide who must know where to lead. If a leader doesn't encourage progress, there will be no change or improvement," said Rector Prof. Anter Venus.
The Chancellor also added that the spirit of goodness will be seen when each individual does small things consistently.
"Everything starts small, but if done daily, it becomes a good habit. The primary motivation entrusted to a leader is to strive for improvement. UPNVJ embraces this spirit of transformation for the better. I see the Faculty of Engineering continuing to grow," he said.
Dr. Eng. Ir. Teguh Firmansyah completed his Bachelor of Electrical Engineering at the University of Indonesia, then continued his Masters in Electrical Engineering – Telecommunications at the same university in 2012. He obtained his Double Doctoral Degree from the University of Indonesia and Shizuoka University, Japan in the field of Electrical Engineering – Telecommunications.
In his remarks, Dr. Teguh Firmansyah, who was present with his beloved wife, said that the position of Dean is a great mandate that requires moral and academic responsibility.
"The mandate as Dean of the Faculty of Engineering requires accountability, both moral and academic, to continue the struggle of our predecessors in building the Faculty of Engineering as an important part of the university ecosystem that is superior, has integrity, and has a National Defense identity," he said.
Dr. Teguh revealed that his appointment as Dean of the Faculty of Engineering was the result of a long process.
"The Chancellor entrusted me to become Dean after a lengthy process. I've known UPNVJ since 2018 because my wife is also a lecturer in the Faculty of Health Sciences," he explained in an interview.
Furthermore, he emphasized the importance of strengthening UPNVJ's identity as a campus with a National Defense character.
"UPNVJ has a National Defense identity that can become a strategic direction in the future for the implementation of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education to be more precise," he added.
Dr. Teguh also brought a vision of internationalization as one of his leadership priorities.
"I have a large international network to expand my international activities. It's just a matter of how students prepare their English skills, especially the TOEFL, which is one of the requirements," he said.
In addition, he is committed to encouraging lecturers in the Faculty of Engineering to pursue doctoral studies, strengthening research collaboration between lecturers and students, and encouraging the downstreaming of research results.
"In the near future, I will encourage and support lecturers to pursue doctoral studies. From a research perspective, I will invite all lecturers to collaborate to ensure more measurable results, including patent rights and the commercialization of research products," he said.
With the spirit of transformation carried by UPN “Veteran” Jakarta, this inauguration is an important momentum to strengthen the role of the Faculty of Engineering in producing innovation, superior research, and graduates who are resilient and have the character of National Defense.
