Public Relations of UPNVJ - Lecturer of Political Science Study Program, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) of Veteran National Development University Jakarta (UPNVJ), Reja, BA, MMPA, accompanied the Expert Body of the Indonesian House of Representatives in a public consultation with the UPNVJ National Defense Study Center (Puska). This activity discussed academic input on the Draft Law on Amendments to Law Number 23 of 2019 concerning Management of National Resources for National Defense (RUU PSDN), held at the BEJ Hall of the UPNVJ Faculty of Economics and Business. This assistance aims to ensure the discussion runs synergistically and strategically, considering Reja's background as a former Expert Staff of Commission I of the Indonesian House of Representatives, thus strengthening the contribution of academics in national defense legislation that has a broad impact on state security.
The Head of the Team for Drafting the Academic Paper and Draft of the PSDN Bill from the DPR RI Expertise Body, Yeni Handayani, opened the event by introducing the 13 delegates and emphasizing Reja's involvement from the start. "I asked Reja, a lecturer in Political Science at the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences at UPNVJ and a former Expert Staff of Commission I of the DPR RI, to accompany us so that this discussion is more synergistic and strategic," she said when interviewed by the UPNVJ Public Relations Team on January 26, 2026. The Head of the UPNVJ National Defense Center, Dr. Ridwan, S.Sos., M.Si., welcomed the delegates with his national security experience, including as a 1999 graduate of the State Cryptography Academy Cadets.
Ridwan highlighted threat mapping as the first step in amending the PSDN Law. "Mapping threats means mapping problems, which must be done first before discussing resolution instruments," he emphasized in his presentation. Fiora Ladesvita, M.Kep., from the National Defense Center, added holistic input regarding the bill's clauses. "There needs to be clear clarity regarding the meaning of the determination, attitude, and behavior of national defense, including cross-sectoral evaluation and strengthening soft skills as part of national defense," she said.
The discussion concluded with five questions from the Indonesian House of Representatives team, during which Reja emphasized a broad understanding of defense. "Defense should not be understood narrowly; like political science, it encompasses dynamics ranging from the domestic to the national level," he concluded. This activity demonstrated collaboration between academics and the legislature to strengthen defense legislation, with a focus on problem-solving and an inclusive approach.
