Sharpening Public Policy Competencies, UPNVJ Sharia Economics Students Attend the 2026 Sharia Economic Forum

UPNVJ Public Relations – Students of the Sharia Economics Study Program at the Veteran National Development University (UPNVJ) Jakarta participated in the 2026 Sharia Economic Forum, organized by Metro TV in collaboration with the Institute for Development of Economics and Finance (INDEF). The national forum served as a strategic discussion platform addressing challenges, opportunities, and policy directions for developing Indonesia's halal economy and industry amidst global competition.

The event, held in February 2026, brought together stakeholders from government, regulators, and industry practitioners. Several national figures served as speakers, including Nasaruddin Umar, Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa, Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita, and Anggito Abimanyu, Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of the Deposit Insurance Corporation (LPS).
In their presentations, the speakers highlighted the current state of the national sharia economy and Indonesia's enormous potential as a global center for the sharia economy.

Anggito Abimanyu emphasized the importance of the state's role in strengthening sharia industrial governance through integrated and competitiveness-oriented policies.
He cited the merger of the State-Owned Banks Association (ABSI) into PT Bank Syariah Indonesia Tbk (BSI) as a strategic step that successfully strengthened the position of the national Islamic banking sector. He argued that developing the Islamic economy must not merely focus on halal (permissible) and haram (forbidden) aspects, but must also create added economic value, expand financial inclusion, and build an accessible ecosystem.

The participation of UPNVJ Sharia Economics students in this forum is part of the program's practice-based learning strategy. The Head of the UPNVJ Sharia Economics Study Program, Fadhli Suko Wiryanto, S.Pd., M.Sc., CDIF, explained that the students' involvement in the national forum aims to broaden their policy horizons and strengthen their professional preparedness.

"We want students to excel not only theoretically but also to understand the dynamics of industry and public policy firsthand. This forum provides a concrete illustration of how the Islamic economy is developed through cross-sector collaboration," he said when met on Thursday (February 19, 2026).

One student participating in the forum stated that the discussion opened up new perspectives on the challenges of developing the national Islamic economy. He assessed the need for adaptive, competent human resources capable of bridging academic, industrial, and public policy interests.

The students' active participation in the 2026 Sharia Economic Forum underscores UPNVJ's commitment as a National Defense Campus to preparing graduates who are responsive to national strategic issues. Through contextual learning directly connected to policy practice, UPNVJ fosters the emergence of a generation of globally competitive sharia economic professionals and contributes significantly to strengthening Indonesia's sharia economic ecosystem.
