Supporting National Advocates Standards, UPNVJ Faculty of Law Holds PKPA Batch IX Based on Single Bar

UPNVJ Public Relations - The Faculty of Law of the Veteran National Development University Jakarta (FH UPNVJ) reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the strengthening of the advocate profession system based on the single bar principle through the implementation of the Special Education for the Advocate Profession (PKPA) Batch IX. This program is held through a strategic collaboration with the Central Executive Board of the Indonesian Advocates Association (DPP IKADIN) and the West Jakarta Branch Executive Board of the Indonesian Advocates Association. The opening was held in a hybrid manner at the Grand Slipi Tower, 5th Floor, and via Zoom Meeting, to expand access while maintaining the quality of advocate professional education.

The implementation of the PKPA answers a fundamental question: how to ensure that advocate education standards remain uniform, structured, and imbued with integrity amidst the dynamics of professional organizations? Through a single-bar approach as mandated by the Advocates Law, the Faculty of Law UPNVJ, along with partner professional organizations, reaffirms its commitment to uniform curriculum standards, codes of ethics, and oversight and disciplinary enforcement mechanisms.

In his keynote address delivered virtually, Otto Hasibuan, Deputy Minister of Law of the Republic of Indonesia and Chairman of the Indonesian Advocates Association (PERADI), emphasized the strategic position of the PKPA in the national law enforcement system. He stated that the single bar principle aims to maintain consistent quality among advocates and prevent organizational fragmentation that could potentially undermine public trust. "The PKPA, within the single bar framework, is the foundation for the birth of professional, independent, and high-integrity advocates. This profession is a pillar of law enforcement and a guardian of citizens' constitutional rights," he emphasized.

The Dean of the Faculty of Law at UPNVJ, Dr. Suherman, SH, LL.M., stated that the PKPA Batch IX is an implementation of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education in the field of applied and quality-oriented legal education. The curriculum is designed comprehensively, integrating legal theory, litigation practice, legal document preparation techniques, and strengthening the professional code of ethics. "The synergy between academics and professional organizations ensures that PKPA graduates are substantive and ethically prepared before entering the next stage of the legal profession," he said.

The Chairman of the West Jakarta Branch of the Indonesian Advocates Association (PERADI), Dr. Suhendra Asido Hutabarat, SH, MH, SE, MM, emphasized that the PKPA is a fundamental stage in the character development of advocates. He emphasized that the advocacy profession is a profession of public trust that demands integrity, moral courage, and a commitment to the principles of justice and the rule of law.

Meanwhile, the Secretary General of the DPP IKADIN, Dr. Rivai Kusumanegara, SH, MH, emphasized the importance of participants' intellectual and mental readiness to face the increasingly complex and dynamic legal issues. According to him, the PKPA is the beginning of a long process of developing professional advocates who are adaptive to regulatory developments, technology, and global demands.

Through the ninth PKPA program, the Faculty of Law (FH) of UPNVJ, along with IKADIN and PERADI West Jakarta, are strengthening synergy in maintaining the standards, dignity, and integrity of the Indonesian legal profession. This program is expected to produce young advocates who are professional and ethical, and capable of sustainably strengthening the national law enforcement system.

UPNVJ Rector, Prof. Dr. Anter Venus, MA, Comm., in a separate statement emphasized that strengthening professional education is part of the institution's strategy to enhance its academic reputation and contribute significantly to the nation. "We encourage the development of advocates who are not only legally competent but also uphold the values of integrity, ethics, and social responsibility as part of the character of National Defense," he said.

The single bar commitment affirmed through the 9th Batch of PKPA is a concrete step by the UPNVJ Faculty of Law to ensure that the education of advocates is in line with regulatory mandates, the needs of legal practice, and public expectations for a fair and trustworthy justice system.
