UPNVJ Public Relations - To kick off the holy month of Ramadan 1447 Hijriah, the Faculty of Law of the Veteran National Development University Jakarta (FH UPNVJ) officially opened the Special Education for the Advocate Profession (PKPA) Batch IX in collaboration with the Central Executive Board of the Indonesian Advocates Association (DPP IKADIN) and the West Jakarta Branch Executive Board of the Indonesian Advocates Association. The opening, which took place at the Grand Slipi Tower on Friday (20/2/26), was carried out in a hybrid manner, bringing together participants from various regions both offline and online. The momentum of Ramadan is interpreted as the starting point for the formation of advocates who are not only academically superior, but also have integrity and ethics.
This activity addresses the legal world's need for professional advocates who are adaptable to regulatory dynamics and global challenges. Through collaboration between academics and professional organizations, the Faculty of Law (FH) of UPNVJ affirms its commitment to strengthening the quality of legal professional education based on competency, morality, and social responsibility.
In his keynote speech, Otto Hasibuan emphasized that advocates are guardians of justice who bear a moral and constitutional responsibility to defend the rights of the people. He commended the UPNVJ Faculty of Law's consistency in organizing PKPA, which prioritizes quality, integrity, and relevance in legal practice. "Being an advocate is not just a profession, but a calling to uphold justice and the rule of law," he said.
The Dean of the Faculty of Law at UPNVJ, Dr. Suherman, SH, LL.M., stated that the synergy with the advocate organization represents a concrete integration between the academic world and legal practice. He believes that professional education goes beyond the technical aspects of court proceedings, but encompasses character development, professional ethics, and social sensitivity to community issues. "PKPA is a comprehensive learning space to produce advocates who are both professional and dedicated," he said.
The Chairman of the West Jakarta branch of PERADI, Dr. Suhendra Asido Hutabarat, emphasized that the PKPA is a starting point for prospective advocates to understand the commitment to legal aid services and pro bono practice. This is considered crucial as a manifestation of the profession's social responsibility in ensuring access to justice for all levels of society.
Similarly, Dr. Rivai Kusumanegara, Secretary General of the Central Executive Board of IKADIN, reminded that future challenges in the legal world require advocates who are adaptive, have a global perspective, and consistently maintain integrity amidst pressures of interest. He believes the quality of Indonesian advocates must continue to be strengthened to compete in the national and international legal landscape.
The ninth batch of PKPA also reinforces the Faculty of Law (FH) UPNVJ's position as a legal education institution actively contributing to the development of superior human resources in the field of advocacy. The program is designed with a curriculum aligned with professional organization regulations and the needs of judicial practice, providing participants with comprehensive preparation for the next stage of the legal profession.
UPNVJ Rector, Prof. Dr. Anter Venus, MA, Comm., in a separate statement emphasized that strengthening professional education is part of the institution's strategy to enhance its academic reputation and contribute significantly to society. He emphasized the importance of integrating competency, integrity, and National Defense values in every UPNVJ graduate. "We are committed to providing legal education that is not only academically superior, but also character-driven, ethical, and impactful for the nation," he emphasized.
The beginning of Ramadan is expected to be a spiritual reflection and the beginning of a professional journey for the 9th batch of PKPA participants. Through a collaboration between the Faculty of Law (FH) of UPNVJ, IKADIN, and PERADI West Jakarta, this program not only opens professional education but also builds a foundation for professional advocates with integrity and a commitment to upholding justice and the rule of law in Indonesia.
