Open Dialogue between UPNVJ and BEM: Transforming Campus Parking Towards Modern Management

UPNVJ Public Relations — Veteran National Development University Jakarta (UPNVJ) held a hearing with the University's Student Executive Board (BEM) and the Faculty Student Executive Boards (except Medicine) regarding the implementation of on-campus parking in collaboration with PT Sky Parking Utama. The hearing took place on Friday (February 20) in the Nusantara 1 Meeting Room.

The event was attended by the Vice Rector for Planning, Finance, and General Affairs (PKU), Prof. Netti Herawati, and the Vice Rector for Student Affairs, Cooperation, and Information Systems, Dr. dr. Ria Maria Theresa, along with the Head of the UPNVJ Bureau, along with student representatives from the University Student Executive Board (BEM) and the Faculty Student Executive Board (BEM). This audience provided an open dialogue between university leaders and students to discuss the currently implemented parking policy.

Dr. dr. Ria, who facilitated this activity, stated that this audience was held to open a space for clear and solution-oriented communication. "I, from the student affairs department, facilitated this meeting to ensure everything is clear. Please, fellow students, feel free to ask questions in this forum. We are certainly looking for solutions and solutions to existing problems together. The hope from this activity is that we can understand each other and start the parking process at UPNVJ in a better and more modern way that satisfies all parties. Although there are limitations in the planning, the intention is still for the good of all of us," she said.

Meanwhile, Prof. Netti emphasized that students are always the top priority in every policy we make. "We continue to put students at the forefront of all policies and services implemented at UPNVJ because we are mandated to educate and improve the welfare of students. For us, students are partners who can provide input. We are making every effort, but if our policies still have shortcomings, we are ready to continue making improvements. Regarding the collaboration with Sky Parking, this has also been the subject of lengthy discussions within the university leadership," she said.

Head of the PKU Bureau, Dr. Ahmad Ahsin explained that as a Public Service Agency State University (PTN BLU), UPNVJ remains committed to transforming its campus in various areas, including parking. "As you know, our campus area has not increased due to several challenges that have not been resolved. However, amidst these limitations, we are striving for transformation to make several improvements with the aim of providing the best facilities for students. In addition, parking management was previously carried out by a cooperative that is outside the organizational structure and work procedures of UPNVJ. This is also related to the overlap with the Ministry of Defense and was found by the Supreme Audit Agency (BPK) in 2022. Therefore, UPNVJ as a PTN BLU has an obligation to manage it effectively, efficiently, and accountably," he explained.

In the discussion session, representatives of the University Student Executive Board and Faculty Student Executive Board conveyed a number of questions, input, and expectations regarding the implementation of the parking system, including aspects of rates, accessibility, and transparency of management.

The student representatives present also expressed their hope that any policy planning concerning student welfare would involve students from the early stages of the decision-making process and for the sake of transparency, so that the resulting policies would be more participatory and on target.

The collaboration with PT Sky Parking Utama is expected to provide a more organized parking system with technological support, thus providing comfort for the entire academic community.

Through this audience, UPNVJ affirmed its commitment to continue building good campus governance, while also opening up inclusive communication space with students as strategic partners in institutional development.
