UPNVJ Chancellor: National Defense Literacy Shapes Student Identity From the Moment They Enter Campus

UPNVJ Public Relations — Veteran National Development University Jakarta (UPNVJ) affirmed that National Defense Literacy is one of the main filters in the UPNVJ Independent Selection or SEMA UPNVJ 2026. This National Defense Literacy Exam will be held on Thursday, June 25, 2026, online for general participants and in-person specifically for participants who choose the Bachelor of Medicine Study Program. Through this scheme, UPNVJ not only assesses the academic readiness of prospective students, but also instills a sense of nationalism from the moment they enter the campus environment.

UPNVJ Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Anter Venus, MA, Comm when met by UPNVJ Public Relations, said that National Defense Literacy is an important part of the selection process because UPNVJ wants to ensure that prospective students have a foundation of values that are in line with the campus' identity.
"With the National Defense Literacy exam, we want students who are part of the UPNVJ family to be able to implement national defense as their identity from the moment they enter, even when they are still new students," he said.

According to him, this exam is designed not merely as an administrative stage, but as a selection instrument that measures prospective students' readiness to understand state issues more broadly.

This understanding is considered important so that UPNVJ graduates will not only excel in the scientific field, but also have the awareness to provide benefits to society, the nation, and the state.
"This is intentionally designed to be an extraordinary filter for our children so that they can later understand the state more broadly, with beneficial results, of course," he added.

This year's National Defense Literacy exam will be conducted in two formats: online and offline. The in-person format is specifically for undergraduate medical students as part of UPNVJ's efforts to ensure that accepted medical candidates possess adequate academic capacity, character, and a strong understanding of national values.

Prof. Anter emphasized that prospective doctors from UPNVJ are expected to possess not only medical competence but also social sensitivity and a commitment to service. In this context, National Defense Literacy serves as a foundation for prospective students to understand that their profession and knowledge must be directed towards the benefit of humanity and the advancement of the nation.

Looking ahead four years, when the 2026 UPNVJ Student Examination (SEMA) participants complete their studies, the Chancellor hopes they will grow into a generation of change-makers. The National Defense identity is expected to become more than just an institutional slogan, but a truly concrete attitude, way of thinking, and action in community life.
"I hope they can all proudly embrace the National Defense identity as UPNVJ's identity. They will be able to share their critical knowledge with full benefit for the nation and state," said Prof. Anter Venus.

UPNVJ views National Defense Literacy as a strategic differentiator in its new student admissions process. Through this selection, the university strives to build an academic ecosystem that focuses not only on intellectual achievement but also on character development, integrity, social awareness, and national responsibility.

With the completion of the 2026 UPNVJ National Defense Literacy Exam, Professor Anter assessed that this selection process is the first step in producing students who are critical, adaptive, and have character. For UPNVJ, the success of higher education is measured not only by its ability to produce competent graduates, but also by their real contributions as National Defense personnel who can bring benefits to the wider community.
