UPNVJ Public Relations — Veteran National Development University Jakarta (UPNVJ) has reopened its admissions program for new students through the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) program in the health sector. This program provides healthcare workers, particularly working D3 Nursing and D3 Physiotherapy graduates, with the opportunity to gain academic recognition for their education, competency, and relevant professional experience.
Through a portfolio assessment process, prospective students' work experience and competencies can be recognized as Semester Credit Units (SKS). This mechanism allows students to continue their education to the undergraduate level without having to repeat all the courses they have already mastered.
To maintain the quality of the learning and assessment process, UPNVJ has set a limited capacity for health study programs. The Undergraduate Nursing Study Program offers a quota of 30 students for D3 Nursing graduates from study programs accredited with at least a B or equivalent.
A similar quota is allocated to the Undergraduate Physiotherapy Study Program, with 30 students. This program is intended for Physiotherapy Diploma 3 graduates who wish to upgrade their academic qualifications to a bachelor's degree. With maximum recognition based on portfolio assessment results, the study period can be completed in three semesters, or approximately 1.5 years.
Specifically for applicants to the Undergraduate Nursing Study Program, UPNVJ requires prospective students to declare their willingness to continue their education in the Nursing Professional Program after completing their undergraduate degree. This requirement is part of an effort to maintain continuity between academic competence and clinical practice skills of prospective nursing staff.
UPNVJ also offers an RPL pathway for the Master's Program in Public Health, with a capacity of 20 students. Graduates of a four-year or bachelor's degree in health, or other relevant study programs, meet admission requirements.
The RPL selection process emphasizes the alignment between the learning outcomes of the study program and the competencies possessed by prospective students. Therefore, applicants are required to submit documents confirming their education, work experience, competency certification, and credible evidence of professional practice.
Applicants to the Nursing and Physiotherapy Undergraduate Programs from outside UPNVJ are required to have a valid Registration Certificate (STR). Physiotherapy applicants from outside UPNVJ must also submit a Physiotherapy Practice Permit (SIPF).
Proof of at least one year of work experience is required for applicants to the Physiotherapy Undergraduate Program from outside UPNVJ and the Public Health Master's Program. This experience must be relevant to the health sector and proven through official documentation from the prospective student's institution.
Applicants must also attach a competency certificate issued by a national or international institution, such as the National Professional Certification Agency, the Ministry of Health, or another recognized institution. The certificate must be current and issued within the last five years. In nursing, a Basic Trauma Cardiac Life Support (BTCS) training certificate can be used as supporting evidence of competency.
Additionally, applicants to the Undergraduate Nursing Study Program are required to submit proof of membership in the Indonesian National Nurses Association (PPNI). All submitted documents will be reviewed and evaluated by assessors to determine the number of credits that can be recognized.
The introduction of RPL in the health sector expands educational access for healthcare workers seeking to improve their competencies without neglecting the professional experience gained in clinics, hospitals, and other healthcare facilities. However, credit recognition is not automatic; rather, it is determined based on the relevance and strength of the evidence presented by each participant.
