Public Relations of UPNVJ – The Faculty of Engineering of the National Development University “Veteran” Jakarta (FT UPNVJ) equipped 470 new students of the Class of 2026 to face the transformation of technology and the industrial world towards 2030 through the Introduction to Campus Life for New Students (PKKMB) of the Faculty of Engineering, August 12–13, 2026. The first day of activities took place at Graha Aminullah Ibrahim, Marine Cilandak, South Jakarta, Wednesday (12/8/2026), then continued at the Limo Campus of UPNVJ, Depok, Thursday (13/8/2026). Students were encouraged from the beginning not only to master theory, but also to build competencies, experience, networks, work, and integrity as provisions for entering the professional world.
The 470 new students are spread across five study programs, comprising 131 undergraduate students in Mechanical Engineering, 136 undergraduate students in Industrial Engineering, 68 undergraduate students in Naval Architecture, 118 undergraduate students in Electrical Engineering, and 17 undergraduate students in Logistics Engineering. This number represents the 2026 intake of new students from the UPNVJ Faculty of Engineering who participated in a series of introductions to campus life at the faculty level.
The 2026 UPNVJ Engineering Faculty PKKMB carries the theme "Treading the Earth, Looking to the Sky, Taking a Role for the Future." Based on the activity's Terms of Reference , PKKMB serves as an initial platform for students to understand academic life, the lecture environment, organizational culture, and engineering values grounded in the spirit of National Defense. Activities are also directed to shape students who are adaptive, critical, capable of collaboration, have integrity, and are ready to face the learning process and professional development in the future.
The Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at UPNVJ, Dr. Eng. Ir. Teguh Firmansyah, ST, MT, IPM, emphasized that new students are not merely embarking on a journey to obtain a bachelor's degree, but are also preparing themselves to face major changes in the world of engineering. Teguh has been serving as Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at UPNVJ since his inauguration in October 2025.
"New students at the Faculty of Engineering at UPN 'Veteran' Jakarta are not only embarking on a journey toward a bachelor's degree, but also preparing themselves for a world that will be very different when they graduate. Therefore, from the first semester, we encourage students to not only learn theory but also to build competencies, experience, networks, work, and integrity," said Teguh.
According to him, students from the Class of 2026 are expected to enter the professional world around 2030, when artificial intelligence, automation, green engineering , connected industries, digitalization, and global competition are intensifying. These conditions require prospective engineers to possess adaptability and a willingness to continuously learn to keep up with technological changes.
"We want UPNVJ Faculty of Engineering graduates to become engineers who are not only capable of using technology, but also able to control and utilize it responsibly. This includes using artificial intelligence , where the principle is that AI should be a co-pilot, not an autopilot. Technology may assist the process, but responsibility for the results remains with humans," he said.
Teguh asked students to utilize the eight semesters gradually, starting from adapting to academic life, exploring experiences, building competencies and networks, gaining industry experience, and proving their abilities through work, publications, and portfolios before entering the workforce.
"Don't be a student who just goes to class and then goes home. Use campus as a laboratory for self-development. Join organizations, competitions, projects, find mentors, and network with industry and alumni. You don't have to do everything at once, but choose something, pursue it seriously, and document the results," he said.
On the first day at Graha Aminullah Ibrahim, Marine Cilandak, students received briefings from the leadership of the Faculty of Engineering and external speakers. One session featured the Chairman of the DKI Jakarta Provincial DPRD, Suhud Alynudin, S.IP., M.Sc., with the topic "Treading the Earth, Looking at the Sky: The Role of Engineering Students as Future Leaders of Indonesia." In the TOR, the session was aimed at strengthening understanding of leadership with integrity, concern for community issues, collaboration, and the role of engineering students in national development. Suhud's status as Chairman of the DKI Jakarta DPRD was also recorded in the official information of the DKI Jakarta DPRD in 2026.
The second day of the series at UPNVJ's Limo Campus introduced students to the Faculty of Engineering's academic ecosystem. The agenda included an introduction to student organizations, presentations on study programs and practitioners, materials on occupational safety and health (K3), remanence, and presentations on student projects. Through this series, students gained an overview of their academic pathways and opportunities for developing competencies outside the classroom.
In addition to academic and technological skills, the Dean reminded students to safeguard three important assets during their education: time, energy, and reputation. He explained that the habits developed on campus will shape their character and professionalism when they enter the workforce.
"Eight semesters isn't just a journey to graduation. They're an opportunity to build who we will be when we graduate. Therefore, starting now: study hard, build your work, gain experience, and maintain your integrity," said Teguh.
The Faculty of Engineering's PKKMB is part of the UPNVJ new student development process that places academic competence, National Defense character, integrity, and adaptability as the foundation of education. In line with the leadership direction of UPNVJ Rector Prof. Dr. Anter Venus, MA, Comm., students are expected not to stop at academic achievement, but to grow into graduates who are able to master technological changes while providing real benefits through their scientific fields. Through provision from the beginning of lectures, UPNVJ continues to strengthen its efforts to produce competent, responsible, and ready to take on the role of engineers for society and the development of Indonesia.
