UPNVJ Public Relations – The National Development University “Veteran” Jakarta (UPNVJ) commemorated the 81st Anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Indonesia through a flag ceremony at the Pondok Labu Campus Ceremony Field, South Jakarta, Monday (17/8/2026). UPNVJ Rector Prof. Dr. Anter Venus, MA, Comm acted as the ceremony instructor which was attended by the leadership, lecturers, education staff, and students. The nuances of diversity colored this year's commemoration through the use of traditional Nusantara clothing, as well as the presentation of awards to 27 UPNVJ employees and retirees for their years of service and dedication.
The diverse traditional attire worn by participants from various regions not only made the independence ceremony solemn but also represented Indonesia's rich cultural heritage. The diversity of styles, attire, and regional identities blended together on the field, reflecting the spirit of Bhinneka Tunggal Ika (Unity in Diversity) within the National Defense Campus.
The August 17th ceremony is part of a series of events to celebrate the 81st anniversary of Indonesian Independence at UPNVJ, which will take place on August 4–18, 2026. The agenda includes various competitions, independence ceremonies, and an Independence Bazaar.
During the ceremony, Venus read the Proclamation of Independence of the Republic of Indonesia. The reading of the Proclamation honored the struggle of the nation's founders and served as a reminder that independence must be achieved through work, responsibility, and dedication.
The UPNVJ Rector also delivered a speech from the Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology on the occasion of the 81st Anniversary of Indonesian Independence. The message emphasized the role of higher education institutions in fulfilling independence through improving the quality of education, developing science and technology, and contributing to society and national development.
For UPNVJ, as a National Defense Campus, the commemoration of independence also serves as a momentum to actualize nationalism in academic life. The values of struggle are embodied through integrity, professionalism, innovation, service, and the academic community's contribution to society.

Diversity and Service Become UPNVJ's Independence Message
This year's commemoration of the 81st Indonesian Independence Day at UPNVJ brought together two important messages: unity in diversity and appreciation for service. The traditional attire worn by the academic community showcased the richness of cultural identity as a unifying force, while the appreciation for employees and retirees emphasized the importance of service in fulfilling independence.
For UPNVJ, the spirit of national defense extends beyond ceremonies. Education, research, innovation, community service, integrity in their work, and public service provide concrete avenues for the academic community to contribute to the nation.
This direction is in line with the emphasis of UPNVJ Rector Prof. Dr. Anter Venus, MA, Comm that national values must be realized in real attitudes and actions, not only understood as concepts. In various UPNVJ national agendas, Venus consistently places character, integrity, social concern, and national responsibility as an important part of the National Defense Campus identity.
Through the commemoration of the 81st Anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia, UPNVJ affirms its commitment to maintaining independence through unity, integrity, work, and real contribution to Indonesia.
