Wearing Traditional Indonesian Clothing, UPNVJ Students Strengthen Unity on the 81st Anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia

UPNVJ Public Relations – Veteran National Development University Jakarta (UPNVJ) commemorated the 81st Anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Indonesia through a flag ceremony at the Pondok Labu Campus, South Jakarta, Monday (17/8/2026). UPNVJ Rector Prof. Dr. Anter Venus, MA, Comm acted as the ceremony instructor, which was attended by leaders, lecturers, educational staff, and students. All participants wore traditional Nusantara clothing, presenting cultural diversity as a symbol of unity in commemorating independence.

The ceremony took place in the front yard of the Dr. Wahidin Sudiro Husodo Building, Faculty of Medicine, UPNVJ. The August 17 ceremony was part of a series of activities to commemorate UPNVJ's 81st Indonesian Independence Day, which included sports competitions, inter-work unit competitions, a flag ceremony, and an Independence Bazaar on August 18, 2026.

The Indonesian nuances were a major focus of this year's ceremony. The academic community wore a variety of traditional attire from various regions, showcasing Indonesia's rich cultural identity while emphasizing that differences can be a strength for building unity.

For UPNVJ, as a National Defense Campus, the commemoration of independence doesn't stop at the annual ceremony. August 17th serves as a space to revitalize the values of unity, nationalism, responsibility, and devotion through the roles of each member of the academic community.

During the ceremony, the UPNVJ Rector read the Proclamation of Indonesian Independence. The reading of the Proclamation served as a reminder of the struggle of the nation's founders and a reflection on the responsibility of the current generation in fulfilling independence.

Venus also delivered remarks from the Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology on the occasion of the 81st Anniversary of Indonesian Independence. The message reinforced the role of higher education institutions in fulfilling independence through education, scientific and technological development, innovation, and impactful contributions to society and the nation's progress.

The presence of university leaders, lecturers, educational staff, and students in a single field, dressed in diverse traditional attire, also conveys the message that campus life is a reflection of Indonesia. Diversity in region, culture, discipline, and background is united by the common goal of advancing education and contributing to the nation.

UPNVJ Appreciates Employee Dedication

The commemoration of the 81st Anniversary of Indonesian Independence is also a momentum for UPNVJ to give awards for the dedication and devotion of employees.

In the series of ceremonies, the university presented four awards to UPNVJ employees, awards to 12 retired employees, and Satyalancana Karya Satya to 11 employees.

The award to retired employees represents the university's respect for those who have completed their service and contributed to UPNVJ's journey and development. Their contributions during their time serve as a crucial foundation for the sustainability of educational services and the institution's development.

Meanwhile, the Satyalancana Karya Satya (Satya Karya Satya) is a badge of honor for civil servants for their loyalty, dedication, skill, honesty, and discipline in carrying out their duties to the state. In the UPNVJ award tradition, the Satyalancana Karya Satya also serves as a form of appreciation for service during a specific period of service.

The award places the value of independence in a more concrete context. The struggle is not only understood through historical events, but is also continued through professionalism, integrity, service, education, research, innovation, and community service.

For UPNVJ, this spirit aligns with the character of the National Defense Campus, which places love for the homeland in concrete actions. Higher education has a responsibility to prepare quality human resources while also shaping citizens with integrity and a sense of purpose to benefit society.

In commemoration of the 81st anniversary of Indonesian Independence, UPNVJ affirmed that diversity, dedication, and professionalism are integral to the achievement of independence. The spirit of Bhinneka Tunggal Ika, embodied in traditional Indonesian attire, serves as a reminder that diversity can be a strength when directed toward the shared goal of building a more advanced Indonesia.
