HumasUPNVJ - Chancellor of the Jakarta Veterans National Development University (UPNVJ) Dr. Erna Hernawati, Ak, CPMA, CA, CGOP asked the permanent lecturers to improve their research and community service performance, in addition to teaching students.

"Lecturers must contribute to the accreditation of study programs through research and community service. The dean can begin to see the performance of lecturers' research and community service, in addition to aspects of governance which are one of the assessments of accreditation," Erna said in her remarks at the opening of the Research and Community Service Week Community held online, Monday (23/8/2021).

Erna also encourages lecturers to be able to conduct research and community service using external funds because they can contribute highly to study program accreditation.

According to Erna, one of the weaknesses of research and community service at UPNVJ is that there are still very few external funds. Therefore, lecturers must be able to seek research and community service that receive funding from external parties.

"There is still minimal research and community service originating from proposals that receive external funding, for example from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology. Aside from the limited quota, the proposals must be special," he said.

Erna said that the obligation for lecturers to carry out the Tridharma of Higher Education was one of the demands after UPNVJ became a state university, especially with the status of a public service agency.

"With UPNVJ becoming a state university, it will be monitored directly by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology. Therefore, Tridharma lecturers need to be escorted," he explained.

Meanwhile, UPNVJ Deputy Chancellor for Academic Affairs Dr. Anter Venus, MAComm said that being a permanent lecturer means being bound by Law Number 15 of 2005 concerning Teachers and Lecturers.

"Lecturers who have received lecturer certification are referred to as professional lecturers whose duties are as educators and scientists. The scientific aspect is filled with scientific publications," he said.

The scientific aspect, continued Venus, is what distinguishes lecturers from teachers who teach at school. Teachers in schools teach using books that may also be provided by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology.

"Lecturers may teach with their own books which are the result of research," he said.

Venus said that lecturers should not only focus on teaching, but also conduct research and community service.

"Results of research and community service should not only be reported, but must also be published," he said.
