HumasUPNVJ - The leadership of the Jakarta Veterans National Development University (UPNVJ) regretted that there was misinformation written by the media or conveyed by UPNVJ students when they were resource persons in a number of media regarding the death of Fauziyah Nabilah Luthfi who was affectionately called Lala, a D3 Physiotherapy student who died while participating in the Student Regiment (Menwa) raiding activity. ) Jayakarta.
"We appreciate the student's choice of attitude towards this incident. It shows student organization activists have concern for other students. However, we regret that a number of narratives were incorrectly framed by students when they were sources in the mass media," said UPNVJ Deputy Chancellor for Student Affairs and Cooperation. Dr dr. Ria Maria Theresa, Sp. Kj, MH via written statement in Jakarta, Wednesday (1/12/2021).
The first misinformation that was conveyed was that Lala's death occurred during Menwa New Member Elementary Education activities that were permitted by the campus. Ria emphasized that the activity that Lala participated in until she died was berretan, not basic education, and the UPNVJ Menwa did not have permission from the UPNVJ leadership to participate in this activity.
The UPNVJ leadership did indeed give permission for the basic education activities to be held on September 10-12 2021. However, Lala died while participating in the rehearsal on September 25 2021 and the UPNVJ Menwa had yet to obtain permission to take part in the activity.
"On September 13, 2021, a circular was issued from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology which prohibited all activities on campus except for learning. Because of this, all student organization activities were subsequently not given permits. We even revoked permits for student organization activities that had been granted prior to the circular. Kemdikbudristek published," he explained.
The next wrongly framed narrative is that the campus did not pay any attention to Lala's death, even the condolences that had been uploaded on UPNVJ's official social media were taken down.
Ria emphasized that this was not true. When receiving news of Lala's death, the campus immediately ordered the UPNVJ Menwa supervisor to go to Ciawi Hospital, the hospital where Lala was declared dead, to take care of the body and accompany her family.
"The campus helped take care of the bodies at the hospital, brought the bodies home to the family home in Palmerah, West Jakarta, to Lala's funeral in Sragen, Central Java. Even the day after Lala died, on the second day of the graduation ceremony, a joint prayer was held for Lala led by the Dean. Faculty of Health Sciences," he said.
Ria also denied uploading condolences on social media. Ria said that the condolences were uploaded by UPT Humas UPNVJ through the IG Story feature, which can only be seen for 24 hours, so the upload will automatically disappear, not be taken down. The condolences were uploaded via IG Story on September 27, 2021 morning.
The narrative that was further wrongly framed was that the campus covered up Lala's death so that new students found out about the incident after two months so they took action on November 30, 2021, to coincide with UPNVJ's 44th Anniversary.
Ria said the campus did not cover up Lala's death at all. This can be seen from the condolences posted on social media and the joint prayer at the graduation ceremony. Ria even informed Lala's death to UPNVJ Student Executive Board (BEM) Chairman Rama Fathurachman, the night after Lala died on September 25, 2021 afternoon.
"I sent WhatsApp to Rama as the Head of BEM. So we didn't cover up Lala's death. Of course we couldn't send WhatsApp to all students," he said.
Because of this, Ria regretted the framing conveyed by students when they were sources in the mass media by stating that they did not know about Lala's death because it was covered up by the campus. Ria emphasized that the UPNVJ leadership had been open and transparent since Lala died.
Regarding Lala's death, Ria said the family said they had accepted it and had no problem. The family saw Lala's body for themselves, which had no signs of violence and refused when the campus offered to do an autopsy.
"In fact, we are worried that the family will feel disturbed because this incident is being questioned again, two months after Lala died. All of us at UPNVJ are concerned about this incident and hope that this will all be a lesson for all parties, both students, student organizations, and the campus. " he said.
