"Before there were questions from students, after I heard the news that a student had died at night, the next day on the second day of graduation we immediately prayed for him," the Chancellor said to students who were met at Plaza Wardiman, UPNVJ Pondok Labu Campus, Jakarta, Tuesday (30/ 11/2021).

The Chancellor said that after that he immediately ordered a representative from UPNVJ to directly handle the body of the deceased and accompany his family. The deceased died on September 25, 2021. On September 28, 2021, the Deputy Chancellor for Student Affairs and Cooperation invited the parties involved, including the deceased's family, online to obtain a chronology of the events.

After holding several meetings to discuss the incident, the Chancellor then formed a Disciplinary Commission at the university level on November 1, 2021 to find data and facts.

The Chancellor asked the Disciplinary Commission to immediately process the incident and as soon as possible provide recommendations to the Chancellor regarding possible sanctions against UPNVJ Menwa officials.

"The Chancellor will make a decision based on data and facts from the Disciplinary Commission. The rules already exist, the Chancellor's decision will be based on regulations," he said.

Regarding the student's request that the Menwa at UPNVJ be disbanded, the Chancellor said he invited students to conduct studies based on clear research methods.

"Please make an academic study regarding the existence of Menwa. Menwa is not only at UPNVJ. If there is a study, I will wait, I will convey it to the authorities," he said.

Meanwhile, UPNVJ Deputy Chancellor for Student Affairs and Cooperation Dr. dr. Ria Maria Theresa, SpKJ, MH as Chair of the Disciplinary Commission that was formed said that the deceased participated in Menwa Jayakarta's banishment in Sentul, West Java starting Friday (24/09/2021).

On Saturday (25/09/2021), there will be long march activities. Stage I of the longmarch is three kilometers to the Jami Tanah Baru Mosque with two breaks for drinks with a time of five minutes.

"According to the chronology we received, the terrain for the long march was still a gentle track. At 13.45, while heading to the second stop for stage 1, the deceased looked exhausted and finally the committee decided to put him in an ambulance," he explained.

At 14.30, when he arrived at the destination of stage I with the ambulance, the deceased came out of the ambulance and rejoined his friends who were resting. He stated that he was feeling better and ready to continue his journey again.

"At 14.45, after resting at stage 1, the journey continued towards stage II at the Quba Mosque with a distance of 3.1 kilometers. At 15.30, approximately two kilometers from stage 1, the deceased experienced cramps in his left leg. The committee decided to take the deceased by ambulance towards stage II," said Ria.

At 16.10, when he arrived at stage II, the condition of the deceased was getting weaker and he started to become uncooperative when he was assisted. The committee then asked for help from the ustadz at the mosque, but could not provide assistance. At that time, the deceased had also been given oxygen because of shortness of breath.

The deceased was then taken to the location where the march ended, to receive further assistance in the form of additional oxygen. Because her condition was not getting better, the committee decided to take the deceased to Sentul EMC Hospital.

However, even though the siren had been turned on, the ambulance carrying the deceased could not move due to traffic jams in the Sentul area. Local residents advised the committee to turn around to Ciawi. However, the trip to Ciawi Hospital was also jammed.

At 18.45, the pulse on the radialis of the deceased was not palpable so his friends took the initiative to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation. However, upon arriving at the Ciawi Hospital, the deceased was declared dead at 19.07.

"After hearing the news that the deceased had died, the UPNVJ Menwa supervisor immediately went to Ciawi Hospital to take the deceased to the family home in Palmerah, West Jakarta and to bury her in Sragen, Central Java," said Ria.

Ria said that the carrying out activities that the deceased participated in did not get permission from the campus. The last Menwa activity to obtain a permit was Basic Education for New Members which was held on 10-12 September 2021.

"On September 13, 2021, a circular appeared from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology that only learning activities were allowed. Because of this, submissions for direct student organization activities were not permitted. Those who had previously been given permits were even immediately revoked," he said.

As Deputy Chancellor for Student Affairs and Cooperation, Ria said there was no difference in the treatment of student organizations at UPNVJ, including in granting activity permits.

"The Disciplinary Commission will immediately submit recommendations to the Chancellor regarding this incident," he explained.
