Public Relations of UPNVJ - The Faculty of Engineering of the National Veteran Development University Jakarta (UPNVJ) held a public lecture on the theme "Maritime Leadership, Technology, and National Defense in the Era of Globalization" on Wednesday (3/9/2025) at the Tanah Airku Hall, Campus 2 UPNVJ, Jakarta. This event featured Admiral TNI (Ret.) Ade Supandi, SE, MAP, former Chief of Staff of the Navy, as the main speaker to share insights on maritime leadership, in line with efforts to strengthen the identity of national defense within the UPNVJ academic community.
The public lecture was opened by UPNVJ Rector Prof. Dr. Anter Venus, MA, Comm. In his remarks, he emphasized the role of visionary leadership supported by technology in shaping a patriotic young generation. "As a National Defense Campus, UPNVJ is committed to producing leaders who are ready to face global challenges with the spirit of national defense," he said.
Ade Supandi explained that maritime leadership is key to strengthening Indonesia's position as the world's largest maritime nation. "Maritime leadership is not just about managing marine resources, but also building national resilience through cross-sector collaboration and technological innovation," he said. He highlighted challenges such as cyber threats and marine resource protection, which require adaptive leadership, combining integrity, decisiveness, empathy, and adaptability. Ade Supandi also referred to the Global Maritime Axis concept, launched by the government in 2014, as a strategic foundation for a national, ocean-based vision.
The event, attended by hundreds of UPNVJ students, lecturers, and educational staff, was closed by the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Dr. Ir. Muchamad Oktaviandri, ST, MT, IPM., ASEAN Eng. He appreciated the participants' enthusiasm and encouraged the application of these insights in academic and professional life. "This public lecture strengthens the UPNVJ Faculty of Engineering's commitment to supporting Indonesia's vision as a global maritime axis through education and technology," he said.
This activity is part of UPNVJ's efforts to develop a young generation with leadership, technological insight, and dedication to national defense. The UPNVJ Faculty of Engineering hopes that similar events will continue to be held to strengthen academic synergy and patriotism.
