UPNVJ's Vice Rector for Academic Affairs Emphasizes Quality Culture as a Way of Life at the Launch of SI-AMI
*UPNVJ Public Relations* – The Vice Rector for Academic Affairs of the “Veteran” National Development University Jakarta (UPNVJ), Dr. Henry Binsar Hamonangan Sitorus, ST, MT, emphasized that a culture of quality cannot be built instantly. According to him, a culture of quality must be a lifestyle that is carried out consistently, sustainably, and data-based by the entire academic community. He conveyed this at the Launching of the UPNVJ Internal Quality Audit Information System (SI-AMI) held by the Quality Assurance and Learning Development Institute (LPMPP), Tuesday, May 26, 2026.
The event, moderated by the Head of UPNVJ's LPMPP, Satria Yudhia W., SE, MSAk., is part of UPNVJ's efforts to strengthen quality assurance governance through digital transformation. The launch of SI-AMI is expected to provide a more integrated, effective, adaptive, and easily monitored internal quality audit system for work units, study programs, faculties, and university leadership.
In his presentation, Dr. Henry explained that higher education quality is built through a strong relationship between the Internal Quality Assurance System (SPMI) and the External Quality Assurance System (SPME). He described the SPMI as the primary foundation for building institutional quality, while the SPME serves as a mirror that displays the results of these internal processes to the public.
"Quality is built internally through SPMI, and demonstrated to the outside world through SPME. The two are inseparable," said Dr. Henry.
He emphasized that the implementation of SPMI must be embedded in daily academic activities and governance. He stated that the Determination, Implementation, Evaluation, Control, and Improvement (PPEPP) cycle needs to be implemented diligently in every work unit, study program, and faculty.
"When SPMI is implemented seriously, good accreditation results are no longer something we pursue, but rather a natural consequence," he explained.
Dr. Henry also highlighted various forms of external assessment, ranging from BAN-PT accreditation, the Study Program Accreditation Instrument 5.0 (IAPS 5.0), accreditation by the Independent Accreditation Institution, and international accreditation. He believes that all of these assessments are essentially a reflection of the quality built within the institution.
"SPME is a mirror. It shows the world how far our institution has progressed. It's SPMI that determines the face in the mirror," he said.
He further stated that the primary goal of the quality assurance system is not merely to achieve accreditation, but rather to achieve higher education that is high-quality, relevant, impactful, and competitive. Therefore, continuous improvement needs to be part of the work culture of all elements within UPNVJ.
According to Dr. Henry, a culture of quality is not solely the responsibility of one unit. Students, lecturers, study programs, faculties, the Institute for Quality Assurance (LPMPP), and university leadership all have their respective roles in maintaining and improving the institution's quality.
Students, for example, are expected to actively provide feedback on the learning process and academic services. Meanwhile, study programs and faculties are responsible for managing, evaluating, and continuously improving academic quality based on data and higher education standards.
The launch of SI-AMI is a strategic step by UPNVJ to digitally strengthen its internal quality audit process. This system is expected to make documentation, monitoring, evaluation, and follow-up of audit results more systematic and transparent.
