UPNVJ Public Relations - The Chairman of the Golkar Party Faction of the Indonesian House of Representatives, M. Sarmuji, SE, M.Sc. , urged the younger generation to cultivate the values of Pancasila through concrete attitudes and actions in their daily lives. He delivered this message while speaking as the keynote speaker at the National Seminar on National Insight at the Bhinneka Tunggal Ika Auditorium, Veteran National Development University Jakarta (UPNVJ), Tuesday, July 14, 2026.
The seminar, organized by UPNVJ in collaboration with the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) and Resonansi, was attended by approximately 250 participants from the academic community and student representatives. Under the theme "Pancasila is Not Grounded, but Grown," the event encouraged students to embrace Pancasila beyond conceptual understanding and instead utilize it as a guideline for navigating social change and technological developments.
According to Sarmuji, the term "cultivating" indicates that Pancasila is a living value that must be continuously nurtured. Pancasila cannot simply be viewed as a slogan or memorized material, but must be embodied through behavior that reflects respect for others, mutual cooperation, justice, and unity.
He continued, explaining that the process of cultivating these values can begin within the family, educational institutions, and even public spaces. Each environment plays a role in shaping habits and culture that align with the Indonesian national identity.
Sarmuji believes that universities have a strategic position in producing a generation that excels not only academically but also possesses strong character and national insight. Campuses must be spaces for healthy dialogue and nurture future leaders capable of maintaining unity amidst diversity.
This role is increasingly crucial as the younger generation faces a rapid flow of information, the development of digital technology, and the potential for societal polarization. Without a strong foundation of values, technological advancements and openness to information can influence how people understand differences and address national issues.
Therefore, Sarmuji encouraged students to use technology critically and responsibly. Pancasila values should be the guiding principle for building communication, expressing opinions, and resolving differences without undermining unity.
UPNVJ Rector, Prof. Dr. Anter Venus, MA, Comm., emphasized that strengthening national values is a crucial part of higher education. He believes that internationalization and scientific advancement must go hand in hand with a commitment to maintaining the unity and integrity of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia.
"In the era of internationalization, the nation will remain strong if we work together consistently to maintain unity and believe that the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI) is non-negotiable," Venus said.
