Public Relations of UPNVJ – The Rector of the National Development University “Veteran” Jakarta (UPNVJ), Prof. Dr. Anter Venus, MA, Comm, delivered a presentation entitled “Following the Patriot’s Footsteps, Building the Future: History, Identity, and Development of UPNVJ” to new students in a series of Introduction to Campus Life for New Students (PKKMB) UPNVJ 2026 at the Tennis Indoor Stadium Senayan, Jakarta, Monday (10/8/2026). PKKMB UPNVJ took place for two days on 10–11 August 2026 and carried the theme “Young People with Character Defending the Nation, Having a Real Impact on the Nation.”
Through this material, Venus encourages new students to not only get to know UPNVJ as a place of higher education, but also to understand the university's history, identity, and values that shape its character. This understanding is crucial for students to understand their academic environment and recognize the inherent responsibilities of being part of the National Defense Campus.
The history of UPNVJ is closely linked to the spirit of struggle and national development. The institutional footprint of UPN “Veteran” began with the initiative of independence fighters who founded the “Veteran” National Development Academy in Yogyakarta on December 15, 1958. The development of UPNVJ in Jakarta was then marked by the establishment of the Banking Academy, the Textile Academy, and the Yos Sudarso Commercial Shipping Management Academy under the Development Cadre Development Institute in 1963. The three academies were then integrated into the PTPN Veteran Jakarta Branch in 1967.
The institutional journey continued to develop until UPN “Veteran” Jakarta Branch became an independent university in 1993. After experiencing various institutional and status changes, UPN “Veteran” Jakarta officially became a state university on October 6, 2014 through Presidential Regulation Number 120 of 2014.
For Venus, this long journey is important to introduce to students from the beginning because the identity of a university is not only built through names and symbols, but also through the values inherited and implemented by the academic community from one generation to the next.
The national defense values that are UPNVJ's identity extend beyond conceptual understanding. Previously, Venus emphasized that these values need to be translated contextually into students' lives through integrity, discipline, responsibility, concern for others, a passion for learning, and the use of knowledge to benefit society.
The atmosphere became even more lively when the question-and-answer session began. The new students showed great enthusiasm to interact with the Rector. This response caught the attention of Venus, who was visibly excited by the students' courage and curiosity in participating in the material.
Venus hopes the enthusiasm that emerged at the start of the academic journey won't last only during the PKKMB. She hopes the enthusiasm for asking questions, learning, exploring the campus environment, and developing themselves will continue to motivate students until they complete their education at UPNVJ.
For new students, this momentum also serves as a gateway to understanding that being part of UPNVJ means continuing the journey of an institution that has historical roots in struggle as well as the responsibility to continue to develop in the face of changing times.
UPNVJ positions the PKKMB as a foundation for students entering university life. Venus previously stated that this activity provides new students with an opportunity to become familiar with the academic environment, the values fostered by UPNVJ, and the various opportunities they can exploit during their education.
By introducing the university's history, identity, and development, UPNVJ aims to ensure that new students not only know where they are studying, but also understand the values they bring and the contributions they can make in the future. Building on the legacy of their predecessors, UPNVJ's new generation is expected to grow into academics with character, integrity, and adaptability, capable of making a real impact on society and the nation.
