Public Relations of UPNVJ - The Faculty of Social and Political Sciences of the National Development University “Veteran” Jakarta (FISIP UPNVJ) provided 987 new students of the 2026/2027 Academic Year with an Introduction to Campus Life for New Faculty Students (PKKMBF) 2026 at the Ragunan Soldier Hall, South Jakarta, Wednesday, August 12, 2026. Carrying the theme “Young Horizons, Seeking Direction, Determining Goals,” this activity is the initial stage of student development to recognize the academic environment, build character, broaden horizons, and determine the direction of self-development. The provision was carried out through an Open Senate Meeting, introduction to majors, democratic literacy, career readiness, and the ability to adapt to the development of artificial intelligence (AI).
The new students come from five undergraduate programs: Communication Studies, International Relations, Political Science, Information Science, and Film, Television, and Media Studies. Their journey as part of the UPNVJ Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) was marked by the symbolic placement of a compass, in keeping with the "Cakrawala Muda" (Young Horizons) theme, which defines campus as a space for recognizing potential, broadening horizons, and finding purpose during higher education.
Dean of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) of UPNVJ, Dr. S. Bekti Istiyanto, M.Sc., emphasized the faculty's commitment to providing an inclusive academic environment while strengthening the quality of education, research, and collaborative networks. FISIP UPNVJ is currently supported by 132 lecturers, including 37 CPNS lecturers. In the 2024–2026 period, the faculty also recorded 1,053 Implementation Arrangements (IA), 24 MoAs or active international cooperation agreements, and 112 active national collaborations that, among other things, can open up research opportunities and internship experiences for students.
Bekti also stated that strengthening the faculty's quality is reflected in the lecturers' national and international engagement, including their involvement as visiting lecturers at foreign universities and obtaining research funding. He emphasized that students should utilize this academic environment from the outset to develop competencies, achievements, networks, and experiences outside the classroom. UPNVJ's Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) also affirmed its commitment to inclusive education by accepting students with special needs in the 2026/2027 academic year.
The faculty orientation didn't stop at introducing the academic structure. Ardli Johan Kusuma, S.IP., M.Si., Head of the Political Science Department at UPNVJ's Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, reminded students that their status as university personnel carries social responsibilities. He emphasized that FISIP students need to grow as agents of change who not only pursue academic achievement but are also sensitive to societal issues and able to make positive contributions through the knowledge they acquire.
The perspective of nationalism and democracy was also strengthened through a briefing by Dr. Bob Hasan, SH, MH, Chairman of the Legislative Body of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) and Member of Commission III of the DPR RI. He encouraged students to develop intellectual abilities and emotional maturity through organizations and various campus activities. This experience is considered important because students starting college now will enter their productive age as Indonesia heads towards 2045 and have the potential to play strategic roles in social, economic, and political life.
Preparedness for changes in the workplace is another prominent aspect of PKKMBF. SolvaAI CEO and Founder and AI content creator Nicola Gibran Aljaya, through the "Beyond Major, Find Your Path" session, encouraged students to not rely solely on the technical expertise of their study program for their future. He believes that changes in the workplace require the ability to combine academic competencies with AI, non-technical skills, organizational experience, internships, and the courage to try. He shared his experience facing rejection from around 60 companies as a learning process before building a career and business in AI automation.
This series demonstrates the direction of the UPNVJ FISIP PKKMB, which is no longer limited to introducing buildings, study programs, and campus life. New students are guided from the outset to develop critical thinking, communication, collaboration, technology adaptation, and the ability to connect academic knowledge to real-world issues. This approach also continues the development phase after the UPNVJ Rector handed over 4,612 new students to their respective faculties at the closing of the university-wide PKKMB on August 11, 2026.
The direction of this development is in line with the educational policy of UPNVJ Rector Prof. Dr. Anter Venus, MA, Comm., which positions students as active learners and encourages the mastery of critical, creative, collaborative, adaptive thinking skills, as well as digital literacy and character. In the use of technology, Venus emphasized that AI must be a tool to strengthen human capabilities, not replace critical reasoning, creativity, responsibility, and character of students. With this foundation, PKKMB FISIP UPNVJ becomes the starting point for forming students who are not only competent in the fields of social and political sciences, but also able to translate the identity of National Defense through work and real contributions to society.
