UPNVJ Public Relations – The Student Executive Board of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (BEM FISIP) of the National Development University “Veteran” Jakarta (UPNVJ) held a National Seminar entitled “Beyond GPA: Redefining Career Growth and Self-Potential in an Uncertain Future” at the Bhinneka Tunggal Ika Auditorium, UPNVJ Rectorate Building, Thursday (September 17, 2026). This seminar equipped students with insights into career development and self-potential that are not only based on academic achievements, but also adaptive skills, networks, experience, and readiness to face changes in the world of work.
The event, which took place from 8:00 AM to 2:30 PM WIB, was opened by the Vice Dean for Student Affairs, Alumni, and Cooperation of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) of UPNVJ, Musa Maliki, Ph.D. The seminar was designed as an interactive learning space for students to understand career-building strategies from their college days, from developing mindsets, personal branding, expanding networks, to preparing for the recruitment process.
The Beyond GPA theme emphasizes that a grade point average (GPA) is one part of the academic journey, but not the sole asset for entering the professional world. Students also need to develop communication skills, leadership skills, resilience to change, organizational experience, and the ability to recognize and optimize their potential.
The seminar series featured practitioners from various fields, moderated by Reja, BA, MMPA, Roidah A'isyi Shofwah, and Farahnisa Nurulputri. The speakers discussed self-development, networking, community experiences, and recruiters' perspectives on assessing prospective workforce readiness.
In the self-development session, Hairoma, also known as Roma Nainggolan, a Self-Improvement Energy Coach, discussed the importance of mindset, energy management, mental resilience, and awareness of personal potential. These aspects are considered crucial for helping students navigate increasingly dynamic social and professional environments.
The discussion was then continued by Muhammad Ridho Pratama from HeyJong Community Community Development with Arya Saputra Ramadani, President Director of PT Human Resources GenZ Academy Community. Both highlighted the importance of networking, community involvement, and leadership experience as part of developing a student's portfolio beyond the academic setting.
Arinda Intan, Junior Manager of Talent Acquisition at PT ONE Indonesia, presented an industry perspective. In the session, participants gained an overview of key aspects to consider in the recruitment process, curriculum vitae (CV) development, and the importance of aligning competencies with the needs of the workforce.
Through discussions from various perspectives, participants not only gain an overview of the process of entering the professional world, but also understand the importance of building a track record and skills while still in college.
The organizers also provide a number of supporting facilities to participants, including e-certificates that can be recorded in the Diploma Accompanying Certificate (SKPI), CV review sessions, Deepublish Store book vouchers, and the opportunity to expand professional networks.
The Beyond GPA National Seminar is part of an effort to develop the capacity of UPNVJ's Faculty of Social and Political Sciences students to integrate academic achievements with non-academic competencies. Strengthening adaptive skills, networking, leadership, and professional readiness is expected to help students face the changing needs of the workforce after completing their education.
This activity aligns with UPNVJ's commitment to preparing competent, adaptable graduates with national defense character and the ability to impact society. Student development, therefore, goes beyond academic achievement and encompasses personal development relevant to the challenges of the professional world and changing times.
