UPNVJ Public Relations – The world of work no longer simply requires graduates with high GPAs, but also individuals who are technologically savvy and capable of innovation. To address this challenge, the National Development University "Veteran" Jakarta (UPNVJ) continues to transform its curriculum and strengthen digital competencies for all its students.
"In this digital era, the world of education is required to adapt quickly, including through curriculum adjustments," said UPNVJ Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Anter Venus, MA.Comm, in an interview with the UPNVJ Public Relations team, Wednesday, July 23, 2025.
Prof. Venus explained that UPNVJ has implemented a curriculum review based on outcome-based education (OBE) since the odd semester of the 2024/2025 academic year. "We designed the curriculum to align with current industry needs, particularly in the fields of technology, digitalization, and entrepreneurship," she added.
Practical and project components are also strengthened so that students become accustomed to facing the real challenges of the modern working world.
Curriculum evaluations are conducted periodically every four years, with adjustments made to reflect technological developments. One of UPNVJ's key current focuses is equipping students with digital competencies such as data analysis and an understanding of digital transformation. "Without these skills, students will be left behind and even become victims of technological disruption," said Prof. Venus.
UPNVJ also has a Professional Certification Institute (LSP) that issues various digital certifications, including data engineer, web programmer, cybersecurity analyst, and database programmer. Since 2024, 2,000 students have earned international certifications such as Microsoft Office Specialist, Data Analytics, and Google Certified.
To support the learning process, UPNVJ has been developing the Learning Activities through Digital System (LeADS) platform since 2021, which enables online, hybrid, and asynchronous learning. "We have also begun integrating big data and AI into lecturer research and project-based learning in study programs such as Information Systems and Informatics," he added.
In addition to the Information Systems and Informatics study program, UPNVJ will also launch a Data Science study program in 2024 and is preparing to launch a Cybersecurity study program. "Google even ranked information security analysts among the 15 most promising professions in the world, alongside data analysts and IT managers," he explained.
Although the challenges of this transformation are not easy, Prof. Venus is optimistic. "Human resource and infrastructure readiness are indeed the main challenges. However, with a shared commitment, a strong vision, and strategic investment, we are confident that UPNVJ can continue to produce outstanding graduates who are adaptable to the future," she concluded.
