UPNVJ Public Relations – Veteran National Development University Jakarta (UPNVJ) officially held the 2025 Basic Instructional Technique Skills Improvement Training (PEKERTI) at the Integrated Laboratory of Pondok Labu Campus (November 3, 2025). This activity was in collaboration with the Indonesian Education University (UPI) and was attended by young lecturers as participants. UPNVJ Rector, Prof. Dr. Anter Venus, MA., Comm., delivered a speech emphasizing the importance of competency standards in the teaching profession.
The five-day training aims to meet the Minimum Competency Standards (SKM) for lecturers in higher education. Prof. Venus explained that PEKERTI is a primary prerequisite for recognition as a professional educator. "Teaching requires specialized knowledge and skills, including the preparation of exam questions," she said.
The Rector emphasized educational philosophy as the foundation of teaching. He encouraged participants to understand fundamental beliefs about the purpose of teaching before mastering instructional techniques. "A psychophilosophical position determines one's perspective on teaching, starting from within the educator," he added.
An ideal lecturer must master four competencies: professional, pedagogical, personality, and social. "A PhD is only a quarter of the competency. Lecturers need educational skills, a helpful attitude, and good social interactions," said Prof. Venus.
In line with UPNVJ's vision as a superior and adaptive campus, this training encourages the use of digital technology in learning. "Methods must activate students through effective audiovisuals, simulations, and online classes," he emphasized.
The Chancellor also highlighted the role of lecturers as role models for students, both in scientific thinking and behavior on social media. "Avoid disinformation; our duty is to educate the public," he emphasized.
Satria Yudhia Wijaya, MS, Ak, Head of the UPNVJ Learning Development and Quality Assurance Institute (LPMPP), stated that this training serves as foundational training for young lecturers. The multi-day program is expected to produce educators who implement active, project-based, and student-oriented learning.
The collaboration with UPI provides experienced speakers to enrich the material. This training supports improving the quality of higher education in Indonesia.
