This activity marked the official opening of registration for SMMPTN-West 2026, which is a joint independent selection pathway for 27 state universities in the western region of Indonesia that are members of the BKS-PTN Barat Consortium.

The soft launch was attended by more than 230 participants consisting of the Chair of SMMPTN-West 2026, the Chancellors of the consortium's member universities, the Central Committee for Entrance Exams (PPUM), and dozens of teachers from various Senior High Schools/Vocational Schools and equivalents in the Western region of Indonesia.

In his presentation, he explained the registration flow, selection mechanism, and stages of the exam implementation which were designed to provide convenience for prospective participants.

In his presentation, he explained that registration will open on May 4, 2026, and the selection results will be announced on June 30, 2026, at 4:00 PM WIB via the official portal, which will also be supported by an alternative page to anticipate technical problems.

He added that the entire registration process is conducted centrally through the official registration portal , which includes the registration and participant account pages, as well as the information and guidance pages accessible to prospective students. Furthermore, participants can also obtain the latest information through SMMPTN-Barat's various official social media channels.

Furthermore, Prof. Ibrahim explained the advantages of SMMPTN-Barat, which is designed to provide opportunities and convenience for prospective students. In terms of opportunities, this selection involves 27 state universities with over 1,013 study programs and a student quota of approximately 20,035. It also offers choices across university categories, including general, arts, and religious universities.

In terms of flexibility, participants are given the freedom to choose between majors (Science and Technology or Social Sciences), choose up to two study programs, and are not required to take the exam at their chosen campus. Meanwhile, in terms of the system, the selection process uses a standardized Computer-Based Written Examination (UTBK) system, covering a wide area in Sumatra, West Java, and Kalimantan, and is equipped with a rebuttal facility for transparency.

Meanwhile, the official soft launch was conducted by the Chairman of the BKS PTN-Barat, Prof. Dr. Ir. Salampak, MS, who is also the Rector of Palangka Raya University. In his remarks before the inauguration, he stated that BKS PTN-Barat has been established since 1979 and now has 39 member state universities spread across Sumatra, West Java, East Kalimantan, and Central Kalimantan.

He added that this consortium has a mission to increase the capacity of higher education in Indonesia through various programs, such as seminars, workshops, competitions, and collaborative activities such as national and international KKN.

He further explained that the SMMPTN-Barat program is a strategic initiative agreed upon by the rectors of the consortium members. It was first implemented in 2017 with the participation of 15 state universities and continues to grow.

"This year, we're implementing it with greater optimism than last year. The participating universities share the same passion for improving the quality of education and upholding transparency, fairness, and honesty in the new student admissions process," he said.

He also hopes that this inter-university collaboration can continue to be strengthened to provide broader and higher-quality access to higher education for the Indonesian people. He encouraged prospective students to make the most of this opportunity and join state universities in the western region.

In addition to marking the opening of registration, this event also serves as a forum for coordination and alignment of perceptions among the consortium's member universities. This is crucial to ensure the orderly, transparent, and standardized implementation of the 2026 SMMPTN-West.

For UPNVJ, participation in SMMPTN-Barat is part of its commitment to expanding access to higher education for the community. Through this pathway, UPNVJ supports a transparent and accountable student admissions policy that provides prospective students with greater freedom to choose study programs that align with their potential and interests. Intercampus collaboration through SMMPTN-Barat is a strategic step to strengthen the quality of higher education services while providing more inclusive opportunities for Indonesia's young generation.
