UPNVJ Public Relations – Veteran National Development University Jakarta (UPNVJ) held a series of commemorations for the 81st Anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia's Independence from August 4–18, 2026. The celebrations involved the academic community through 11 competitions, an independence ceremony, and an Independence Bazaar. The series of activities was designed to create a solemn commemoration while strengthening the unity of the campus community.
The activities are implemented in accordance with Circular Letter No. 103 of 2026 concerning Activities Commemorating the 81st Anniversary of Indonesian Independence at UPN "Veteran" Jakarta. Through this circular, the university leadership instructed each work unit to send representatives from lecturers and educational staff to participate in the series of independence celebrations.
The 11 competitions were divided into two categories: sports and recreational. The sports categories included futsal and badminton, while the other nine included a fashion show, fried rice cooking, dance or Physical Fitness Exercises (SKJ), cracker eating, funneling water, balloon sheathing, balls using string, snakes and ladders, and room decorating.
A series of sports competitions will open the program in the first week of August 2026. The futsal competition is open to employees from every work unit actively working at UPNVJ. All participants are required to wear a uniform and complete futsal equipment.
Team representatives are also required to attend technical meetings and submit player lists to the committee before the match begins. These requirements are in place to ensure that all matches are conducted in an orderly, safe manner, and in accordance with established regulations.
UPNVJ also held an inter-work unit badminton competition at the Putra Perdana Ciloba Sports Hall. The competition was held over two days in three categories: men's doubles, women's doubles, and mixed doubles. Players who had previously competed in the men's or women's doubles categories were allowed to compete again in the mixed doubles category.
The lively celebrations continued on Friday, August 14, 2026, with nine competitions that emphasized creativity, teamwork, agility, and employee participation. These competitions provided a space for interaction between work units and a means of building a more solid work environment within the university.
Environmental awareness was highlighted through the fashion show. Participants were required to wear clothing made from recycled materials, particularly plastic, that were transformed into creative, show-worthy creations. This requirement was expected to encourage participants to convey a message about waste recycling through engaging creations.
Participants' creativity was also tested in a fried rice cooking competition. Each work unit was represented by two male participants who had to complete their dishes within 30 minutes. The committee provided the main ingredients and cooking utensils, while participants brought their own serving utensils and were not permitted to use any additional ingredients from outside sources.
Meanwhile, the dance competition, or SKJ, emphasizes movement harmony and team cohesion. Each group, consisting of at least six participants, must perform movements to music determined by the committee.
Teamwork among participants is a key element in the balloon sheath, ball-on-string, and snakes-and-ladders competitions. Each competition involves teams of five. Besides being entertaining, these competitions require coordination, communication, and strategy from each team member.
The feel of independence was also presented through a room decorating competition participated by faculties and institutions within UPNVJ. Decorations had to align with the theme of the Republic of Indonesia's Independence Day celebrations, utilizing red and white ornaments, national symbols, or elements of Indonesian culture.
During the event, participants are required to maintain etiquette and respect national symbols. Decorations must not damage campus facilities, interfere with access, or impede the primary function of the room or services to the academic community.
In addition to the competition, UPNVJ will hold an independence day ceremony on Monday, August 17, 2026, on the field in front of the Dr. Wahidin Sudiro Husodo Building, Faculty of Medicine. The ceremony will be attended by vice rectors, heads of work units, lecturers with additional duties, permanent faculty lecturers, education staff, and students receiving Bidikmisi and other scholarships from all faculties.
The series of activities concluded with an Independence Bazaar on Tuesday, August 18, 2026. The bazaar was open to all academics and served as a space for campus community interaction after the competitions and independence commemoration ceremony.
Through this series, UPNVJ positions the commemoration of Independence Day as a momentum to strengthen participation, sportsmanship, creativity, and togetherness within the university. The policy, which involves representatives from each work unit, also reflects the UPNVJ leadership's commitment to instilling a spirit of unity and the values of national defense in campus life.
