UPNVJ Public Relations – Universitas Pembangunan Nasional “Veteran” Jakarta (UPNVJ) is listed as a Reporter in the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2027 process. This status was obtained after UPNVJ participated and submitted institutional data to THE for the 2027 ranking cycle. Based on the notification received by UPNVJ, the university has not yet obtained a ranking or band ranking because one of the eligibility criteria, namely the scientific publication threshold, has not been met.

Reporter status indicates that UPNVJ has entered the data collection and evaluation process for one of the global university rankings. Under THE's mechanism, this status is awarded to institutions that have submitted data but have not yet met all the criteria required for inclusion in the group of ranked universities.

For the THE World University Rankings 2027, one of the main eligibility criteria relates to publication productivity. Universities must have at least 1,000 relevant publications in the 2021–2025 period, with a minimum of 100 publications in each year during that period.

Under these provisions, UPNVJ's Reporter status differs from that of universities that have already achieved a band ranking. Nevertheless, participation in the THE WUR 2027 process provides UPNVJ with a database and benchmarks to map areas that still need strengthening in an effort to increase academic competitiveness at the international level.

THE ranking assesses universities through five main pillars, namely Teaching or learning environment, Research Environment or research environment, Research Quality or research quality, International Outlook or international perspective, and Industry which measures the connectedness of universities with industry.

These five pillars demonstrate that strengthening a university's position in global rankings is not solely determined by the quantity of publications. Research quality and impact, research productivity, international collaboration, academic reputation, and the university's ability to build networks with industry are also crucial factors in the assessment.

For UPNVJ, Reporter status serves as a baseline for evaluating the institution's readiness for the next cycle of global rankings. The evaluation focuses primarily on increasing the productivity of internationally recognized scientific publications, strengthening the quality and impact of research, expanding cross-border research collaborations, and improving institutional data governance and accuracy.

This step aligns with UPNVJ's agenda of strengthening its international reputation through academic quality, research visibility, global collaboration, and academic impact. The strengthening of publications is also aimed at not only fulfilling the quantity requirement but also producing high-quality scientific work that has visibility and contributes to the development of science and solving societal problems.

UPNVJ Rector Prof. Dr. Anter Venus, MA, Comm., also previously prioritized increasing internationally recognized scientific publications, strengthening research centers of excellence, streamlining research, and expanding global collaboration as part of the university's strategic development direction. These policies serve as a foundation for strengthening academic quality and enhancing UPNVJ's international recognition.

Going forward, UPNVJ will make meeting the publication threshold and improving research quality part of its continuous improvement process. With measurable strengthening of research, internationalization, collaboration, and data governance, UPNVJ aims to be better prepared to meet THE ranking criteria in the next cycle, while strengthening its transformation toward a superior, impactful, and globally competitive university.
