Improving Public Relations Competence, UPNVJ Holds a Public Relations Seminar

HumasUPNVJ - In order to improve public relations competence in the 4.0 era, Public Relations of the Jakarta "Veteran" National Development University held a Public Relations Seminar in the Nusantara Meeting Room I, Lt. 2 UPNVJ Rectorate Building (2/9/19).

This public relations seminar was titled " Strategy for Developing Public Relations and Organizing Media Gathering " which presented Yeni Kurnaen, Head of Marketing Communication of PT. Mora Telematics Indonesia as a guest speaker and attended by the rectorate public relations and each - each public relations representative from each faculty.

seminar_kehumasan_(2).JPG In his presentation, many things were discussed, including Yeni discussing the differences in marketing communication and PR as well as regarding the function of public relations/ public relations within a corporate, " Marcomm and PR are completely different but interconnected with each other, namely being responsible for the context of a brand's communication, building corporate identity, as well as ensuring that every brand communication owned by the company always reflects the image that has been built corporately, work functions are more towards marketing oriented tasks, and monitor distribution, sales , new product development, etc. Meanwhile, PR is more responsible for corporate public relations communications, fostering good relations with internal and external parties of the company, conducting company general issues¸ increasing positive corporate image. he said

Apart from that, as a good publicist, you have to really understand customer behavior or consumer behavior, what consumers/public need, and also have to know how to guide the media.

Yeni also explained several forms of Media Relations, including: Press Conference, Press Briefing, Special Event, Media Visit, Invitation to Coverage, Media Gathering , Press Luncheon, Maintenance Lobby, and Press Tour.

One of the most important in public relations is the writing of articles/ press releases , Press Releases are information in the form of news made by the public relations/ public relations of an organization/company which is conveyed to managers, there are several important points that must be considered, "In the process of making a press release, we should only include the core of the news in the title, provide a brief contextualization that doesn't beat around the bush, elaborate the news using supporting data, significant/unique, relevant to the reader, provide added value (not hard sell /put the reader's interest first), treat the press release such as articles, use copy-paste scanty writing, use direct statements, restate “who” your company is and “what” it does in boilerplate , facilitate access to multimedia, prepare ready-to-use images”. Jenny explained

In addition to press releases, several things must also be considered, such as media visits and media gatherings. For Media Visits, what must be prepared are: Invitations (which contain information on when and where and in what context an activity is carried out) , Presentation Material, Agency Introduction (UPNVJ), Marchandise (Plaques, Tumblers etc.) and things that must be considered in organizing Media Gathering, namely, choosing the right day , the right place and time , determining key messages, press releases, complying with the existing rundown , appointing sources/spokespersons who have good credibility , and follow up questions/ door stop/ one-on-one one interview.

This activity was also held to establish communication and friendship between public relations practitioners within UPNVJ.
